Jamie Lynn Spears is back — but don’t call it a comeback. The former Zoey 101 star opens up about her life as a mom and the latest in her country music career in Jamie Lynn Spears: When the Lights Go Out, as seen in two sneak-peek videos.
A clip from the TLC special shows Spears, 25, breaking down in tears as she recalls that she wrote her song “When the Lights Go Out” during the first night that daughter Maddie, now 8, was away from her. Spears, who announced her pregnancy in 2007 at age 16, shares Maddie with ex-fiancé Casey Aldridge.
“She was with her dad for the first time, and I was by myself,” Spears tells the camera. “In that moment, I called Daddy, and I was by myself, and I was just like, ‘I want to be able to let people into that side of me because that’s the story. That’s why I’m singing and that’s why I’m doing it.'”
The Louisiana native, who married Jamie Watson in March 2014, also explains that she doesn’t consider her pursuit of a music career to be a “comeback.”
“I think a lot of people would like to look at me debuting my new music and everything as a comeback,” Britney Spears‘ younger sister says. “But truthfully, I was known for Zoey, I was known for being a teen mom, I was known for being Britney’s sister.”
“But eight years has passed since any of that has happened, and I was a child then,” she continues. “So I think that ‘comeback’ is a little different because I’ve never been introduced as an adult woman.”
