Lord of the dance! Jesse Tyler Ferguson fancy-footed on The Ellen DeGeneres Show on Tuesday, Sept. 23, showing Ellen DeGeneres some impressive dance moves.

The Modern Family star, 38, caught up with DeGeneres and informed the funnywoman of his dance dreams.

"I guest-judge sometimes on So You Think You Can Dance, and my mom loves when I judge on the show," he explained to DeGeneres, 56. "She thought because I'm a judge on So You Think You Can Dance, I should then, in turn, be a contestant on Dancing With the Stars."

Ferguson has appeared on eight episodes of FOX's So You Think You Can Dance since 2011, last judging an installment of the show this past August. However, he is always behind the judging table with permanent judges Nigel Lythgoe and Mary Murphy, rather than the star of the show on the stage.

"I don't know how the two correlate," he continued to DeGeneres. "I'm never dancing on So You Think You Can Dance. [My mom] really thinks I'm qualified to be on Dancing With the Stars."

DeGeneres decided that the time was right to judge whether Ferguson would, in fact, be qualified to be on the show. "I'm going to let you audition," she explained. "I'll call out styles of dance and put music on, and you dance to each style, showing that you can dance."
