They split in late July, but the last few months of Kat von D and Jesse James' engagement continue to play out on the new season of L.A. Ink.

In a sneak peek from Thursday's all-new episode, the California-based 29-year-old says "it's been awesome" spending more time with the West Coast Choppers mogul, 42, in Austin, Texas.

"Distance is nothing. We'll make it work," von D (real name: Katherine von Drachenberg) says. "It makes sense that we would approach it that way.

And yet, distance proved to be one of their biggest problems. Shortly after announcing their split via Twitter July 27, the tattoo artist opened up about her painful breakup with James in a Facebook post titled "What Can I Say? I Suck."

"I never planned on walking away from this relationship," she wrote. "As much as I'd like to picture [myself] being this strong, independent woman, the truth is most of the time I'm not as strong as I'd like to be -- but I'm still trying."

L.A. Ink airs Thursday at 10 p.m. EST on TLC.

Long distance relationships have a history of not working. They say that 80% of all military marriages end in divorce or have it hard because of the long distance. Sad.
