After weeks of speculation, Katherine Heigl has finally confirmed she's leaving Grey's Anatomy.

"I'm done," she tells the new issue of Entertainment Weekly (on stands Friday).

"We just finalized our agreement," continues Heigl, 31, who played Dr. Izzie Stevens on the ABC medical drama for six seasons. "Everyone had been working really hard to find an amicable and gracious way of letting go and moving on. It's sad but it's what I wanted."

She says she wants more time to focus on her 16-month-old daughter Naleigh, whom she adopted from South Korea with husband Josh Kelley last September.

"I started a family and it changed everything for me," says Heigl, who took a three-month leave after welcoming her baby girl. "It changed my desire to work full-time."

A source told Us Weekly earlier this month that Heigl also wants to focus on her film career. Her newest romantic comedy, Killers, which costars Ashton Kutcher, hits theaters June 4.

"She loves movies," the source said.

She also took a five-episode leave from Grey's to film Life As We Know It last year.

I´ll miss her! I was so glad when Izzie and Alex finally married in "Greys", but when the writers made Izzie leave Alex for a idiotic reason, I knew that she (Katherine) was about to leave the show and when Alex broke up with Izzie in the locker room, it was just another confirmation to that..

    She's beautiful!

Seriously people, there more important things to talk about than this. How does her leaving the show affect your life? Don't wast your thoughts on this. Find something more constructive to rant about.

I think it's nice she wants to spend more time with her baby girl, se is kind of like jennifer aniston with the movies thoguh...none of them are all that great, just ok. also she really looked a lot better as a blonde

  • March 24, 2010 - 5:15pm buh bye

it's a convenient excuse as her reputation and movies both have recently tanked.

what's the big deal. she wants to spend more time with her family. nothing wrong with that. it is ironic Ellen P. went back to work after 4 weeks of having her baby and people hated her for it claiming she is more interested in work than her family, and now Katherine is being critized for leaving Grey's to spend more time with her family. All that matters is that each woman is happy with their descions, after all it is their lives. They don't owe you anything. And how does this really effect your life? NONE! i Hate it when people get so involved with charcters on a tv show that they are missing reality.

The phrase, "Don't bite the hand that feeds you" comes to mind! Get a grip DIVA~

Good, because I am so sure Grey's fans wanted her whinny butt out. She has a sense of self that is blown way out of proportion. She isn't that great an actress because each role she plays she plays Katherine Heigl. Good riddance.

    GOOD RIDDANCE!

  • March 24, 2010 - 3:35pm lmao

Its well known she's been wanting to get off that show for years! She's a known Diva, which she herself has supported with some of her snotty comments. She also has several films lined up and those just as much time as a TV show. I know that she has asked numerous times to be relieved from the contract only to be told no, it was no secret she has wanted to leave the show. So for many Grey's fan its a relief knowing she wont be on.

I won't miss her at all. Her character was finished anyway. I am glad she's going to spend time with her child, for that I give her props. As far as her acting...it leaves much to be desired.

  • March 24, 2010 - 3:06pm re: Annie

I agree, Annie. To bash a woman who speaks her mind is like asking woman to return to the 1800's. Seen and not heard. I don't think so people! Move to Afghanistan if you want women with no voice. Leaving a TV show does not make one a snob---it's been done countless times before.

Good riddance this season has been so great without Isobel Stevens I was saying I hoped she didn't come back and now it is coming true. The show doesn't need Ms Primadonna.

  • March 24, 2010 - 2:48pm Wow!

All this hate towards a woman who is choosing to spend more time with her family. Maybe she should be stoned along with your hate bashing. Everyone knows TV actors work long hours. Last time I checked, this was 2010---women have the freedom to work, raise a family or both. It's not up for you to decide how someone else should live.

  • March 24, 2010 - 2:38pm goodbyeevilwoman

And you all know she'll be filming bad romantic comedies back to back because thats all she can actually get as an actress

  • March 24, 2010 - 2:36pm Annie

I think it's strange that in this day and age a strong opinionated woman who stands up for what she believes in is labled a witch. And JLS they work 18 hour days, I'm sure you don't cover that at starbucks so get over yourself.

  • March 24, 2010 - 2:35pm goodbyeevilwoman

I couldn't stand her character or George's. Glad they are both gone. I cannot stand her as a person. I think she is so ungrateful and snotty. Grey's will be better off without her. GET OFF YOUR HIGH HORSE, your not that great of an actress and you are already being type casted in the movies...
