Madonna's still got it!

The 53-year-old pop diva took the stage for Super Bowl XLVI's much-anticipated halftime show in Indianapolis, Ind., Sunday, performing a 12-minute medley of hits that included her new single, "Give Me All Your Luvin," along with "Vogue," "Like a Prayer" and "Music."

Carried in on a throne for the first portion of her medley, set to "Vogue," the pop diva donned an elaborate gold Gladiator-style getup complete with flashy headdress for the bit, which was staged just like a scene out of 300. See more photos of Madonna performing at Super Bowl XLVI.

Later, a limber Madonna did cartwheels while flanked by dancers in white tracksuits for "Music," and teamed with party rockers LMFAO to belt out their hit "Sexy and I Know It."

Closing out the show with Cee Lo Green for "Like a Prayer," Madonna avoided any sort of wardrobe malfunction -- she promised "no nipples," after all -- by wearing a black long-sleeved robe.

Joe. OK, so it's all smoke and mirrors but your defense speaks for itself. For me it was not WAY more, it was simply mediocre. The acts I mentioned, and Prince, whom I left out previously, all had the same challenges as Madge. But they didn't rely on massive production elements to carry their shows; they STILL delivered the essential core and passion of their music in various Super Bowl venues. I don't dislike Madonna but her music and performance just fell short IMO compared to past halftime acts who delivered and killed. The measure I used was if Lordes was viewing that show I expect she was mortified. Sorry, Vintage Pop - even Madonna's - just does not translate in a Super Bowl halftime venue.

She looked GREAT but she was stiff and unsure in her dance routine. The costums were great...but the M ladies should NOT have been there. I actually thought it was pretty good considering I perfer the marching bands of long ago.

these commentors must be high. who else could have pulled that all off in 12 minutes? WHO? springsteen lip-synced. you HAVE to- there is no time for sound checks and everything it takes to pull it off. it was WAY more than expected and anyone who thinks it could have been better has never seen a halftime show.

There are so many other more deserving and talented singers I'd much rather see...

Kelly Clarkson won the Super Bowl Sing-off. By a landslide. Miranda Lambert and Cee Lo tied for second. And Blake Shelton and Madonna can go to the house. In that order.

It was just like Madonna: thin and in control. She looks great and it was a relieved that she wore costumes that were age-appropriate and more covered. But fitness is still no substitute for talent and I found Madonna's choreography and dancing surprisingly safe and uninspired. Dumbed-down and mainstream. Her vocals are always thin so regardless of whether lip-synced or not, they were just OK. Her only new song was totally forgettable. Compared to the Stones, MJ, Springsteen, Janet & Justin, or Petty there was a complete absence of excitement and abandon in Madge's halftime. Sorry but I'd give it a C+ max.

I should really proofread my posts before submitting...

Madonna was lip-syncing. How many 53-year-olds do you know can perform antics such antics such as cartwheels (although assisted) without becoming too winded to sing? I think the combination of several artists was a great touch and this halftime show was the best I've seen in a while. Kudos Madonna.

Ithink that you can always count on Madonna to give her all and have a good performance.

I wouldn't call it historic but I'd rather watch her than Tom Petty...she worked it in those boots...

    The lip-synching didn't impress me...

  • February 05, 2012 - 9:41pm Maureen Tracy

  • February 05, 2012 - 9:40pm Maureen Tracy
