What's this I hear about Jay-Z having a new lady? Calm down, Beyonce. Breathe, it's OK, this is all professional. So, back to business: Just who is this Alexis Jordan and how did her very first single, "Happiness," jump to No. 1 like that? Hold up -- it's not that shocking when I tell you that seasoned chart topper Jay-Z had a whole lot to do with it.
Jordan was sort of an overnight sensation. The singer was snatched right up after just one meeting by Star Roc, Hova's joint label venture between Norwegian hitmaking team Stargate and Hova's own Roc Nation company, after she was spotted doing her sexy thang on YouTube. "The moment Alexis walked into our studio we got that special feeling," Stargate's Tor tells UsMagazine.com. "It was a blink-moment. This girl's got it, let's make a record."
So they did, and the ditty raced to the top of the Billboard Hot Dance Airplay Chart after just four weeks.
I caught up with Alexis just a few days ago and got her take on a things:
UsMagazine.com: How would you describe your hit's provocative video?
Alexis Jordan: I would describe my video as fun, colorful, and young. The video makes you want to dance. I wanted to do something unique. I want to be an artist that leaves a mark on the industry.
Us: How would you describe Jay-Z as a mentor?
AJ: As a mentor, Jay Z displays a dedication to his work which I admire. His work ethic shows me that in order to be successful you must remain focused.
