Despite never meeting face-to-face, Max Greenfield and Gwyneth Paltrow have become close pals in recent months.
"We e-mail all the time but I've never met her. I just think her website [GOOP] is fun! And I think she's fun!" the New Girl actor, 31, told Us Weekly July 29 on the set of his new AXE "Susan Glenn" campaign.
"I had done a piece for GOOP a while back and I e-mailed her recently and said, 'Hey, Gwyneth, what if my next piece for GOOP was me getting ready for the Emmys?'" he said of the actress, 39. "She was like, 'Done!' So now we are going to document it and put it on GOOP!"
(Introducing Greenfield's GOOP entry in May, Paltrow called the actor " the kind of guy you lusted after at your cousin's Bar Mitzvah.")
Greenfield is up against Saturday Night Live's Bill Hader, 34, and Modern Family's Ed O'Neill, 66, Eric Stonestreet, 40, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, 36, and Ty Burrell, 44, in the outstanding supporting actor in a comedy series category. This is the New Girl star's first Primetime Emmy Award nomination.
"It takes a few phone calls from people for it to set in that it's real," admitted Greenfield, who was shooting his new film, They Came Together, in New York City when he heard about his nod. "I think the third person to tell me was Paul Rudd," he said of his latest movie costar. "And I remember having a feeling like, 'I can't believe this is happening! Two years ago I was auditioning for The Disney Channel, and now Paul Rudd is saying, 'Hey man, congratulations on your Emmy nomination!'"
"I had to walk out of the trailer for a minute and to say, 'What is happening with my life?'" Greenfield added. "And then I had to go back in and say, 'OK, let's own this!"
Greenfield celebrated later that night with a childhood friend at Torrisi restaurant in Manhattan's NoLita neighborhood. "It was really nice to come home the next week to the family and say, "Hey guys, we did it!'"
The actor is already hard at work on season 2 of New Girl, costarring Zooey Deschanel, 32, Jake Johnson, 34, Lamorne Morris, 31, and Hannah Simone, 31. "I really love going to work every day and having a nice job to show up to," Greenfield told Us. "The summer is over for me!"
