What would happen if you mixed R.E.M.'s Peter Buck with Snow Patrol's Gary Lightbody, sprinkle in a little of Belle and Sebastian's Richard Colburn, acclaimed producer Jacknife Lee and a dash of She and Him's Zooey Deschanel and M. Ward with guest spots? New supergroup Tired Pony, naturally. And just to show the band's release of their debut album, The Place We Ran From (out Sept. 28 — recorded in ust one week in Portland, Oregon!) is not just smoke and mirrors, they're showing how they do their thing live just to Usmagazine.com. This exclusive clip shows the group performing "That Silver Necklace" in London last July.
"It felt really powerful and emotional, and also real free," Peter Buck says of recording the disc ogether. "I don't know if Gary went into it planning it to be something that was to last longer than the week of recording, but it certainly felt at the end of the week like it was a band, and that this was a good place to start. It would be crazy not to pursue this."
Adds Lightbody, "We were just a bunch of guys making a record for fun. There was nothing really to hoot for except what we want to do. Nobody's looking over our shoulder. We were making a record in our own little bubble. And it was so much fun."
Wanna catch them live yourself? They hit NYC's Irving Plaza on 10/1 and the El Rey Theater in L.A. on 10/4. And that's all they have planned now, so get tickets while you can!
