“I’m talking about love, I’m talking about heartbreak, a big theme for me in this is trust, and fear,” he told MTV News about the inspiration for the song. “The story behind ‘Chains’ is basically that feeling that all people can relate to, it’s being trapped.”

Although the singer branched away from his brothers Joe, 24, and Kevin, 26, to release an album with his band Nick Jonas & the Administration in 2010, this is the first time he’s releasing music as a solo artist. The Jonas Brothers announced their official breakup in October 2013.
