She's been called the hottest girl in the world, but according to Shia LaBeouf, Megan Fox wasn't ready to become a sex symbol when Transformers hit theaters in 2007.

"Megan developed this Spice Girl strength, this woman-empowerment [stuff] that made her feel awkward about her involvement with [director] Michael Bay, who some people think is a very lascivious filmmaker, the way he films women," LaBeouf, 24, tells The Los Angeles Times.

"Mike films women in a way that appeals to a 16-year-old sexuality. It's summer. It's Michael's style. And I think [Fox] never got comfortable with it," he explained. "This is a girl who was taken from complete obscurity and placed in a sex-driven role in front of the whole world and told she was the sexiest woman in America. And she had a hard time accepting it."

As a result, Fox, 25, was replaced by supermodel Rosie Huntington-Whiteley in the series' third installment, Transformers: Dark of the Moon.

"Rosie comes with this Victoria's Secret background, and she's comfortable with it, so she can get down with Mike's way of working and it makes the whole set vibe very different," LaBeouf said.

i call bullsh*t! she knew the choices she was making were only promoting her sex symbol status. and, i think it's very questionable about her having a brain! she tries to act like she was some outcast in her school age years. she has made comments about how psycho she can be...i think the girl is delusional and confused, perhaps she has a little borderline personality disorder. and, that isnt a stab at her...just an observation. she isnt quite sure who or what she is, ya know?

Megan has a brain--- that's the difference--- she understands what Hollywood did to Marilyn Monroe---- and countless others!!!

im just curious...if she couldnt handle the sex symbol status, then why was she always stripping down for all those men's magazines? im just sayin' she kinda dug her own grave!

well @Madison, she most certainly did, and not just once. I don't hate her, she just got too big for her britches w/o anything to back it up. "Megan doesn't like comparisons" lol!!

I dont blame her for quitting I heard Michael Bay is a sexist pig

    What Madison said.

Blablabla about a very uninteresting person. Once a pretty, polished girl, now a surgery and botox victim, no real accomplishments as an actress or anything else....hmmm, so what?

He makes a decent point, but placing the blame on Michael Bey and the way he likes to film is a bit much. I just saw her on an old episode of Two and a Half Men (it aired in 2004 - before Transformers), she played the housekeepers granddaughter. She washed Charlie's sliding glass door in a pair of short cut off shorts and a bikini top .. and squeezed the spongue on her chest.... hmmmm, was that Michael Bey that requested she do that also? Just sayin'.... She certainly has a right to change her mind on how she wants to be perceived, but she was the playing the sex kitten roles long before Transformers.

She never compared herself to Angelina, Donna. Other people have. In fact, Megan doesn't like the comparisons because she knows they're ridiculous. So if you're going to hate her, at least pick a valid reason.

Excuses. Excuses are the tools for the incompetent. They build monuments of nothingness and those who use them seldom accomplish anything at all.

When you consider this is a woman who likes to dress in jeans and baseball caps. Is totally unprepared for the level of popularity and constant comparisons to Angelina Jolie. Shia's comments have merit. I think she may be one of those people who enjoys what she does, but not the familiarity that goes with it.

I think he actually has a point...

She is nothing to look at - very plain, way too skinny, and a hideous personality to boot. That husband of hers probably has to stuff a sock in her mouth to shut her up. Someone should tell her that if you're great looking but have no talent, you can probably get by on a great personality. But if all you do is whine and complain and ignore fans and just generally be an ungrateful pain in the patooty, your days are pretty much numbered. I can't wait for her number to be up soon.

She doesn't look like a sex symbol here.

  • June 03, 2011 - 10:31am Lavina Boykin

I thought it was more about the not so great acting and running off at the mouth.

  • June 03, 2011 - 9:50am Donna Kelly

um, I'd say when she started thinking she knew better than than the director she over stepped her knowledge and experience..which led to the bad vibes. And when she started comparing herself to Angelina? she lost me, The fact that she is a TERRIBLE actress prob has more to do with her being side lined...than her sexuality.

  • June 03, 2011 - 9:34am Jenn Terry

Interesting...I never thought of it that way before but I think he's right...

  • June 03, 2011 - 9:31am Michelle Ciccone

"Women empowerment stuff"? "Spice Girl strength"?? Is Shia's best reference for strong women really the Spice Girls? lolz

  • June 03, 2011 - 9:15am Candy Rall

I think he hit the nail on the head. Once an actress has become a sex symbol it's hard to be taken seriously after that if you haven't had any "serious actor" cred before you become one.
