The Mindy Project’s fourth season premiered on Hulu, and it’s funnier, edgier, and more lovable than ever. Last time we checked in on Dr. Mindy Lahiri (Mindy Kaling) and her grumpy-yet-endearing boyfriend, Dr. Danny Castellano (Chris Messina), they were at odds over getting married. This Just In: Mindy Isn’t with Danny Anymore
The Mindy Project pulled a Sliding Doors! After going to sleep mad at her man, Mindy woke up in an alternate reality where she’s in an open relationship with Real Housewives Black vs. White producer Matt Sherman (Joseph Gordon-Levitt). In this reality, Danny never got up the nerve to kiss Mindy, and she instead joined the Mile High Club with Matt –– who initially mistook her for an “old Native American man.” Classic love story.
Danny Heads to India Meet the parents!
Back in reality, Danny showed up in India to tell Mindy’s parents that he’s in love with their daughter. Unfortunately, things didn’t go according to plan, and Danny was roped into picking out a husband for his pregnant girlfriend. Also, Morgan (Ike Barinholtz) was there too –– because yes, he flew to India after running into the Taliban in Pakistan. Good times.
The fabulous news is that thanks to the strength of Mindy’s parents’ relationship, Danny realized that marriage might not be a bad idea. He even got Boston-loving Papa Lahiri’s approval, despite the fact that he said Tom Brady is an “ugly cheater.” This is Miss America all over again.
Alternate Universe Danny Is Dating Freida Pinto
After Mindy realized that her bizarro life was totally whack (minus the fact that she’s the owner of Delectable Desires, “slutty girdles for the sexually active obese”), she third wheeled Danny’s date with the impossibly flawless Freida Pinto. Not only did Mindy try to sit on Pinto and almost crush her to death, she declared her love for Danny in the rain and kissed him. Annnnnd then she got hit by a bus and died.
Mindy and Danny Are Engaged
After waking up from her alternate reality, Mindy found Danny on her bed and told him about her horrible dream, saying “It was like It’s a Wonderful Life except it was in color and it wasn’t boring.” Mindy told Danny that she no longer cares about getting married –– but wait! In a totally adorable twist, he popped out a diamond ring and proposed. Yep, these two are making it official!
