Tom DeLay on DWTS Debut: "I Nailed It"

Sure, Aaron Carter may have come out on top on Monday's Dancing With the Stars premiere (he earned the night's highest score: 32 out of 40).
But former House Republican Whip Tom DeLay thought his performance wasn't so shabby.
"I have to say I nailed it - I did!" he told Usmagazine.com after he danced the cha-cha to 1960s hit "Wild Thing."
Added the 62-year-old DeLay (who is partnered with Cheryl Burke): "I felt good, my hips were working. Cheryl held me up, and I really nailed it."

Judges weren't so sure. "Parts were magic, parts were tragic," judge Len Goodman quipped.
DeLay finished with 20 points.
"When we were dancing together, he was all about it," Burke told Us of DeLay. "He was all in character, and he had a lot of fun, so Tom surprised me the most. I wasn't laughing at him, but I was laughing, enjoying the moment. I couldn't believe it!"

At the bottom: Ashley Hamilton and NFL star Michael Irvin tied, with 19 points each.
Former teen singer Carter, 21, was thrilled he ranked No. 1 for the night.
His goal for the show isn't to win.
"I'm here showing people who I am and what I want to be," he told Us. "It's hard ... people look at me and I'm not 12 anymore.
"You don't want people to just like you for how you were then," he added.
"It's important to know that people do change. They grow up and that's what I'm doing."
The ladies will be performing on Tuesday's show. A male and female contestant will be eliminated Wednesday.

Tell Us What You Think
30Donny needs to bring it down a knotch! All the "look at me" I didnt think i could do it is crap! He is a pro! Go Chuck!
I really don't care for the MC Samantha Harris. Really makes you appreciate Ryan Seacrest on Idol. Now that's how its done. As for Tom DeLay, he was not great, but not the worst. Keep the politics out of it. If you think Tom Delay took advantage of the American people, just wait until all comes out about ACORN and the Democrats. Besides, this is DWTS. Entertainment only people. No politics.
Loved it--I have watched it atleast 6 times and it makes me crack up everytime!--political people get off your high rocker and just laugh--relax--life is too short!!
How a crook like Tom gets on this show is diplorable. Shame on anyone that has anything to do with this show including the viewers. Tom Delay took advantage of the american peoples trust and now we find him on TV. I have lost all faith in America. Greed is what fuels America, and clouds it's better judgement. SHAME!
Go Tom! I think he represents the older ages well. He's funny to watch though. I get tired of seeing all the lil younings win.
He was terrible. It was painful to watch.
Umm... He was Republican Leader not Whip.
I voted for him, he was great!!!!!!!!!!!
The judges are all Democrats. Of course they're biased against Tom.
Bahaha! He didn't nail it. No offense, but he was terrible. He'll be the first to go.
You did nail it baby............keep it up. I voted for ya!
Tom DeLay is a jerk and a joke. He's also a criminal. Come Wed. I hope he's gone!
politics*
Tom isnt arrogant, smug or creepy! He just knows how to laugh at himself and have a good time! I hope Ashley is eliminated cuz of his DANCING not his polotics =)
Tom was good lol he's a cute old man. I love his humor
The judges are bias. They already have their favorites picked out. Donny can do no wrong. Samantha Harris is horrible. I can't believe they haven't replaced her yet. I won't be watching DWTS as religiously as I have in the past.
Awww, Tom Delay was cute. He is an old man, for goodness sakes - a very conservative old man, at that. I give him credit for shaking his ass on the dance floor. Although, I must say, he has quite the wide load - that man has a big butt!
Tom, Tom, Tom, please hear me out. If you think 'you nailed it', you still believe in the Easter Bunny. You were pathetic; funny, but pathetic. By Wed. night though, you will probably be out.
Thanks Tom DeLayfor the good laughs you gave me last night; you looked soooo gayyy it's unbelievable, and oh, on chemistry with Cheryl, I give you a big fat zero!!!
I think Michael Irvin was a big disappointment. I was expecting alot more from him.
