No date, no problem. Tom Hiddleston was happily single at the 2016 Emmys on Sunday, September 18. Though he spent some time on the red carpet with Olivia Colman, his costar in The Night Manager, he attended the event solo.
The actor, 35, who split from Taylor Swift earlier this month after a whirlwind summer romance, told Us Weekly he came without a date to the event, where he was nominated for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited Series or Movie. Far from being lonely, though, Hiddleston was bombarded by people wanting to talk to him at the Governors Ball after the show.
Us Weekly managed to score a few minutes with the Thor star inside the afterparty, where he revealed his favorite part of the night. “My favorite part of the night was presenting Susanne Bier with her directing award,” he raved of his director on The Night Manager. “It was a real pleasure for me because we spent eight months on that show and I’m so happy for her.”
Bier was one of two winners for The Night Manager, which racked up a total of 12 nominations. Asked if he was disappointed the series didn’t pick up a few more trophies, Hiddleston was gracious and cheerful. “Not at all! Not at all,” he told Us. “I have to say, somebody last night told me they had Las Vegas odds on The People v. O.J. Simpson, so I knew that train was coming!”
Hiddleston later hit up the HBO afterparty at the Pacific Design Center in West Hollywood, but as he told Us at the Governors Ball, he didn’t plan to stay long. “I’ve got to go back to Australia to keep working on Thor, so I’ll probably bow out pretty early,” he shared.
Incidentally, the Avengers actor wasn’t the only one of Taylor Swift’s exes at the show last night. John Mayer, who dated the pop superstar back in 2009, was one of the musicians in the Emmys band on Sunday. The camera even panned to Mayer after Hiddleston gave Bier her award, but the actor told Us he didn‘t hear the singer’s guitar playing. “I think I was backstage,” he demurred.
