Despite a four-year age difference, Cyrus dated underwear model Justin Gaston for nearly a year between 2008-2009. When they broke up in June, Cyrus addressed the split on Twitter. "Tears are words the heart can't express," she wrote. "How many tears are in there? They've gotta run out soon, right?"
Though viewers were shocked when Cyrus, then 16, swirled around a pole during a performance of "Party in the USA" at the 2009 Teen Choice Awards, her dad Billy Ray didn't see what the fuss was over. "You know what? I just think that Miley loves entertaining people," he explained.
Cyrus ignited a frenzy when she began wearing provocative leotards on stage in 2010. "I'm not trying to be slutty," she explained of her revealing get-ups. "I'm really comfortable with my body, I work really hard to be fit and to know that I can wear whatever makes me most comfortable."
A source tells Us that Bret Michaels "became close to the entire family" when he and the teen star released the racy duet "Nothing to Lose" in February 2010 -- so close that the rocker reportedly had a secret romance with mom Tish Cyrus; husband Billy Ray filed for divorce in October 2010.
Though she's sold out concert arenas, Cyrus admits it can be hard to deal with criticism following her performances. "You can YouTube me, because half the comments are like, 'She sounds like crap!'" she told David Letterman in June 2010. "I'm like, 'At least I'm singing live, so take that.'"
