wasn't "Cleopatra" a box office flop? i heard it was waaaay over budget with a terrible script.
I think Angelina Jolie is the best choice for this movie. She is an excellent actress and also her beauty is like no other actress in her performance level! It should be an extraordinary movie!
wow.everyone should really read there history. Egyptians are AFRICAN. I love elizabeth taylor but she didnt fit the part either. If you look at present day egyptians they look african american. They are beautiful people. They cast Angelina to play a black woman a few years ago and now they are at it again. instead of going with the right history they are going for popularity which is why they chose her. Rosario Dawson is the perfect Cleopatra and not Angelina, did you all not see Alexander the Great . Don't get me wrong but this is not the 60's anymore when Hollywood would discriminate Actors based on the color of their skin, or is it ?. Angelina I'm a big fan and look forward to seeing you in many more flicks but this is one that doesn't fit you, nor did it fit Elizabeth Taylor back in 1963. I know that you will not disappoint your fans because you are a great Action Actor and have establish your self as a leading Lady, but Hollywood at is best has summon the wrong Actor for this role. One day Hollywood will get with the times and not be so antiquated. This is 2011 after all, when is Hollywood really going to perfect what they do ? Answer : Never.
I completely agree with Barbara, about another beautiful talented actresss with a darker colour like Halle, Paula Patton or Rosario Dawson should have played that role but let us remember that Hollywood is not about history accuracy or even talent, it's about who's got the money or power to get the project starting and going? Sad but true!
Good for her and very hard work to represent Cleopatra, I do not think she will do it like Elizabeth Taylor, but we shall see.
I agree a perfect actress with darker skin would be Rosario Dawson. How sexy was she in Alexander the Great with Colin Farrell?

I think Anjolie is not the right actress to play the part. #1. She is a terrible actress. #2 She is not attractive. #3 I studied Egyptian history and there was African mix in the bloodlines and she does not fit neither did Elizabeth Taylor as a matter of fact. You really need a beautiful hispanic actress to play the part or a beautiful African American woman like Halle Berry or Paul Patton.
Jolie will never be as beautiful. Liz Taylor was a terrific actress, in the old movies I have seen, Jolie over acts. Without Jolies mask of make up Jolie borders homely, with those bags under her eyes, bad complexion, huge lips, overbite, big forehead. Good nose job tho.

@ REDD, it's historically known that they inbred to keep their bloodline going. Cleopatra was not dark skinned.
Angelina is more beautiful than Elizabth Taylor because her lips are more pronounced and she is a better actress, the new Cleopatra is going to be good! Jlo might make a good Cleopatra but her acting skills are poor. Most people claim Cleopatra was black so many of them might boycott the film, hope not, because Brad and Angie have given donations to so many black causes.

Jolie won an Oscar 15 years ago for a best SUPPORTING actress role. She has wanted a Oscar for Best actress for years, and can never win. Every famous woman who played Cleopatra, has won an Oscar, so maybe she'll get her wish and disappear from acting. Hopefully.

my cats first name is cleo peekaboo...she is an egyptian abyssinian, and believe me,she looks much more like cleopatra, than jolie does elizabeth taylor...that was a totally different situation, that lady was not only really beautiful, but talented also, so....lets give cesar what belongs to cesar....
once again you have made a statement that is not tru per her interview in washington dc in july she has not signed on to do the film the script has not been presented to her
