What comes after sushi pizza? If you’re Poke Burri, the answer is sushi doughnuts. The Atlanta eatery, which gifted us with sushi pizza and has earned a reputation over the past several months for taking the Japanese dish and presenting it in new and exciting ways, has struck another chord with its latest creation.

The sushi doughnuts are shaped like a traditional version of the popular baked good, but the similarities pretty much end there. In this case, the “doughnut” is a round serving of sushi rice, while the toppings, instead of icing or sugar, are sushi-centric accompaniments such as, well, raw fish, avocado and tempura flakes.

The complete menu features fish selections including salmon, tuna (spicy and regular), and crab, and an array of toppings like jalapeño, fried shallots, masago and picked ginger. And since no sushi (doughnut or otherwise) is complete without sauce, customers can choose from the likes of eel sauce and spicy or wasabi mayo.

Basically, the sushi doughnut selections at Poke Burri are as versatile and numerous as traditional sushi options, meaning there’s no reason not to give the dish a shot. What’s more? According to an owner of Poke Burri, the doughnuts can be made gluten-free upon request.

In fact, one Yelp reviewer noted the small restaurant has a habit of whipping up off-menu items, explaining, “Ask for their off-menu everything doughnut to get a bite of every sushi doughnut they offer. They’re beautifully made and delicious.”

Added another Yelp fan: “I think I died and went to heaven. Poke Burri really outdid themselves.”
