Christina Applegate "Very Good" One Year After Breast Cancer Diagnosis

Wednesday – September 30, 2009 – 6:31pm

One year ago, Christina Applegate announced she'd been diagnosed with breast cancer and had undergone a double mastectomy.

Now, the Emmy-winning actress, 37, tells Usmagazine.com she's doing much better.

See how Christina and other stars wore their hair to the Emmys

"I'm very good," she told Us at the Rock a Little, Feed a Lot benefit concert in Los Angeles Tuesday.

Applegate tells Us she's launching her own foundation called Right Action in late October, breast cancer awareness month.

"It will provide financial aid for women of high risk who want to get MRIs. If you don't have insurance -- which millions of Americans don't -- it's $5,000, so women are opting to not have this test," she explained. "That's what saved my life, and I want to give back in that respect."

Applegate -- who admitted she wanted to "cry...and scream" after her diagnosis -- says she's dedicating most of her time to shedding light on the disease.

"My mother is a breast and ovarian cancer survivor and I've always been very outspoken about it. Then of course it happened to me. And I lost my cousin last year to cancer -- so its very important that we stop it," she said. "Enough is enough."

Another thing she's focusing on?

"I am working on getting a job so if you hear of anything, let me know!" joked Applegate, who last starred on Samantha Who, which was canceled in May after two years on the air.

I am glad she is well. She is one of few actresses who has not not lost herself to the media glow. I grew up watching her and truly think she will make a rebound in the business. God bless you Christina for what you have had to endure and what you are now sharing with others who have fallen due to the same illness. T.G.

I recently was diagnosed with breast cancer. My surgeon told me it was started by taking hormones.I am 82 yrs. young and do not know why I was to take hormones. Anyway. I had a lumpectomy and 36 treatments of radiation and doing very well. If any of you older ladies are taking hormones, ask your doctor if they are necessary. I thank God that I am healing ok. Please watch the "hormone treatments". They are dangerous.
