Paula Abdul gave her first interview since getting replaced by Ellen DeGeneres on American Idol to a Phoenix radio show Thursday morning.

"It's just going to be a different show," Abdul told the Johnjay and Rich Show on KISS FM Phoenix. Previously, she only discussed DeGeneres via Twitter, writing: "I think Ellen will be a gr8 judge on Idol."

The hosts asked her if she ever "broke down" while thinking about walking away from Idol.

"I think that happened during the time I was making that difficult decision [to leave], where I was fighting with myself back and forth" Abdul admitted. "Am I willing to go against what my beliefs are and have the same outcome?"

The New York Times reported she demanded $20 million to return to the show's ninth season.

Abdul also opened up about her post-Idol plans. (She's set to host VH1 Divas Thursday night.)

"I am doing so many things, I can't wait to tell you," she said. "I see myself...such a big part of what I've been doing is helping other people realize their dreams. I've only scratched the surface of things I want to do.

"I'm going to be producing my own shows -- not just in America. I'm going to be creating a show in Vegas. Pretty soon I'll be announcing some very exciting stuff with a network and production company," she said. "So I'm actually getting to do all the things that represent who I am. People have no idea."

I am happy for her. Ellen used poor judgement relating to her poor dog because she thought she was such a huge celeb and so filled w/ her own self-importance that an animal life didn't matter. So how is she going to judge anything? I also think gays should have remained in the closet. It is just too weird.

Abdrool had a few hit songs, did dance routines in the 80's, and could barely string a sentence together till Idol gave her the opportunity to get back in the public eye. She should have been on her knees thanking the Idol producers for making her relevant again. Simon and the other judges do not need to sing or dance to recognise talent. Simon was successful made millions doing it before he brought the show to the Us.

Ellen is the funniest person alive. I love Ellen in everything. When she first started dancing on her talk show it was great. I want PAULA on American Idol. It should be Randy, Paula and Simon. NOT, Randy, Kara, Ellen and Simon!!!! Until our girl, Paula comes back - I refuse to dignify it. I think there is going to be some backlash from idol fans. Everyone loves Ellen, but she has NO business being a judge of a singing contest.
