Patrick Swayze's Body Cremated

Friday – September 18, 2009 – 9:29am

Actor Patrick Swayze -- who died from pancreatic cancer on Monday -- has been cremated, according to his death certificate.

The death certificate also shows that his remains have been removed from the state (he died in Los Angeles, but also owns a ranch in New Mexico), and are being stored under the name of his wife, Lisa Niemi.

Look back on touching photos from Patrick Swayze's life

Although his family has not announced plans for a funeral, the residents of the North Carolina town in which Dirty Dancing was filmed are planning a public memorial service.

On Saturday, the town of Lake Lure will remember the his life with a memorial service at 7 p.m. at Firefly Cove -- the housing development that served as Camp Chimney in the hit movie.

The service is free, but visitors will be asked to donate to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network.

To the Lisa and of course the whole family. I am so sorry for your loss. Patrick was not just a sex symbol, he was a human being too. He was a husband, a son, a brother, an icon, etc. My heart and condolences go out to the entire family. May Buddy rest in peace and remember he left a legacy of memories for all of you. Thanks for letting us comment. I hope in time that Lisa or the family reads some of these comments, because we do care. And it might help heal their hearts. Lisa I wathced your interview with Barbara Walters, and I could see your pain. I could not imagine your loss. I have a wonderful husband too. I couldn't imagine truly your loss. And you still and always will have Patrick in your heart. Please take care of yourself and I know Patrick would want you to go on with your life when the timing is right. My mom lost my dad 11 years ago from cancer too. They were married 27 years and he was only 51. I know everyone is different in the healing process. But I know from TV and articles and interviews with you and Patrick that you are a strong women. You can do this. Remember Patrick Swayze, your husband will never be forgotten. I am 35 and have never wanted to cry over a celebrity before until September 14th, 2009. I followed Patrick and you in magazines, TV, movies, website, never in the fan club though, since Dirty Dancing. I have everyone of his movies including the two with you, Steel Dawn, and The Last Dance. I also have I'm sure you remember Swayze Dancing with mom Patsy and you. I envyed Patrick and you for sharing such a life like you both did. Your love for each other, horses, dancing, nature, ranch living, etc. Keep all of that in your heart and mind and you'll be fine. Take care and this is even hard for me to say, but goodbye Patrick.

It was several years after "Dirty Dancing" first came out that I saw the film. Hokey, to some degree, but it really touched my hokey heart. Thanks Patrick for such a good memory.

I was never a fan of his work really, but I have to say I admire him deeply because of his love for his wife and their not only long, but obviously more in love every year, marriage. I pray God give her strength to go on without him. After 26 years w/ my husband I can not imagine the sun coming up in the morning if I were to lose him.

I'm gonna miss Patrick Swayze. He was honorable and it was refreshing the way he had a long, faithful, loving marriage and decided to live away from Hollywood. I pray that God will give his wife peace and help her find her way through the pain of missing him.

Patrick Swayze was the man! I enjoyed his movies and admired his courage and steeled-determination to survive in the end. he made me a believer while setting yet another example like Farrah Fawcett, of courage in the face of death. As for his movies, I truly feel that movie: Julie Newmar: Here's to Foo Wong, should have produced an Oscar nomination and a win. Mr. Swayze was so believable in that movie.
