Amy Winehouse

Amy Winehouse Bio Bio

This British soul singer may look like she’s from the 1950s, but Amy Winehouse is one of today’s most current breakthrough artists. Born September 14, 1983 in North London, Winehouse signed with her current label, Republic, at the age of 16. With what appears to be all of young Hollywood entering rehabilitation centers, Winehouse's hit,“Rehab,” seemed only fitting to become her first single. The song was been widely accepted by fans across the globe and helped the Brit singer’s album reach number six on the Billboard charts. Her hit single has some truth to it – the 23-year-old's shrinking frame and outlandish behavior is consistently under media scrutiny and, more recently, trips to rehab have been proposed by those close to her, but like her song says, she won’t go, go go.

Love

On May 18, 2007, the singer became Mrs. Winehouse Fielder-Civil when she married Blake Fielder-Civil in Miami Beach, Florida. In late November 2007, Winehouse canceled the rest of her European tour to support her husband, who was incarcerated and charged with conspiracy involving alleged witness tampering.

Career

Winehouse first made her mark on the British music charts in 2004 with her debut album, Frank. The album earned several Brit Award nominations, but it wasn't until she collaborated with producer Mark Ronson that her U.S. career began to hit its stride. Her second album, Back to Black, was released in the U.S. on Oct. 30, 2006 and debuted at number seven on the Billboard charts. This overnight sensation won the 2007 Brit Award for British Female Solo Artist and brought down the house at 2007 MTV Movie Awards when she performed her hit single, "Rehab." Although Winehouse has been under much scrutiny lately due to her apparent drug addictions and rowdy behavior, her talent was the primary focus at the 2008 Grammy Awards where she won five trophies: Record of the Year, Best New Artist, Song of the Year for "Rehab," Best Vocal Album and Best Pop Vocal Performance. In June 2008, the scandalous singer made headlines once again when she fainted at her home and was rushed to a hospital.
