Anna Nicole Smith was born Vickie Lynn Marshall on Nov. 28, 1967. The Texas, native dropped out of high school to marry at the age of 17 before giving birth to her only son, Daniel, to whom she was predeceased. In September 2006, just days after his mother gave birth to daughter Dannielynn, Daniel collapsed and died of a drug overdose at the age of 20. The former Guess model became an American sex symbol in 1992 when she was chosen to appear on the cover of Playboy Magazine, which led to a lucrative modeling career and her own self-titled reality series, which debuted on the E network in 2002. She later became a spokesperson for TrimSpa, a weight loss substance. In the months following her untimely death Feb. 8, 2007 of drug-related causes, the paternity of Smith's infant daughter was a highly contested issue. At one point, seven different men were positioned to be the potential father. Smith's lawyer and lover, Howard K. Stern was initially given custody of the child, only to have the paternity test reveal that Smith's ex-boyfriend and entertainment photojournalist, Larry Birkhead, was indeed the father.

Anna Nicole married oil billionaire J. Howard Marshall on June 27, 1994, just over a year before the ninety-year-old passed away, leaving his wife to battle with Marshall family members over the tycoon's billions. Following her husband's death, Smith engaged in numerous affairs with Zsa Zsa Gabor’s husband, Frédéric Prinz von Anhalt, her former bodyguard, and Mark “Hollywood” Hatten. Prior to the paternity test results being revealed, Smith and Stern exchanged vows and rings in an informal commitment ceremony on Sept. 28, 2006.

Career

One of Playboy’s most popular models, Smith earned the coveted title of Playmate of the Year in 1993. Smith's reality series, The Anna Nicole Show, premiered in 2002, but despite consistently topping the network's ratings, it was canceled in 2004. The actress played herself in the 2005 Be Cool with John Travolta and Uma Thurman. A biopic of Smith's life is currently in the works and will document her rise to stardom. Dancing with the Stars contestant and singer Willa Ford will star as the late model.
