Britney Spears put partying ahead of preparation on her list of priorities the weekend of the MTV Video Music Awards. On September 4, with the singer's scheduled opening performance right around the corner, Spears was four hours late for rehearsal, says a source, then skipped the next night’s scheduled run-through.
And after touching down in Vegas on September 7, she immediately latched on to Sean "Diddy" Combs as her entrée to the VMA party scene. “She wanted to go out to the ‘in places,’” a Diddy pal tells Us.
Mission accomplished. After her dancers rehearsed without her for three hours September 7, Spears hit the clubs hard and partied with Diddy until 3 a.m.
The next night – on the eve of the most important show of her life – Spears club-hopped again, hitting Body English, Tao and Jet, where Diddy ordered shots for the table.
“Britney was throwing them back and asking for more,” says a Jet source.
The crew headed on to Diddy’s Palms suite, and Spears, 25, did not return to her room until 6 a.m. – just 12 hours before she took the stage.
In total, Spears had rehearsed “only two or three times,” says an insider. “She didn’t take it seriously.”

I know for a fact that Britney's "handlers" slipped her a Vicaden around 10am...the day of her pathetic performance. It was the ONLY way they could get her to stop drinking, etc...to knock her out!! No wonder she looked like the proverbial "deer in the headlights"!!

Hard to feel sorry for someone marries ona whim & has children. Also extremely hypocritical to feel sorry for someone whos husband left her with kids when those were the circumstances that Kev got together with Brit. She was naïve to the point of hilarity to think the same thing wouldnt happen. Kids were mistake #2, u need to consider the life u would bring ur children into b4 u decide to have them and if ur prepared to devote your life to them, otherwise u shouldnt b havin kids. Its a privilege not a right.If she felt shes responsible enough to have children then she shouldve established a healthy long lasting stable relationship & environment to bring them into beforehand. Shes young & couldve waited, oh wait, she’s used to getting everything she wants & wanted kids NOW so had them on a whim without planning Selfish! Hate to break it to u but theyre not a commodity. Secondly when u make the decision to take drugs/alcohol ur the only one responsible for that decision & any after affects its caused. Its not as if she was misguided. Shes had plenty of positive influences in her life to turn to for guidance however felt partying & self-medication was more important. Celebrities chose their public-view type careers and u cant turn them on/off. Being a celebrity can be difficult that’s why theyre paid so much. Theyre not complaining when theyre getting paycheques or spending money or having fans idolize them, theyre only complaining when the hard part comes and they are being photographed or scrutinized etc. everyone knows it part of the job and they chose to accept it. If they don’t like it there are many ways to get out of the public eye, showing irratic behaviour in public is not one of them.
As for the performance, it was absolutely pathetic, that is what happens when partying is the most important thing in ur life. She showed no dedication or effort & absolutely should be scrutinized for it as she shoved herself on stage & in the public eye.

I think that Brit needs to stop partying and making herself look pathetic (everything i read about u is pathetic)u are a MOM start acting like it. ur poor kids are gonna be ashamed of u when theyre old enough to understand and read. They didnt choose to come into this world(into ur world) u brought them here so start taking care of them. u really have butiful kids and u had a good life before u screwed up. If Britney had put a little energy into her performance and rocked it like she used to, she would be being commended for being comfortable in her new mommy skin. Unfortunately she acted like she didn't even want to be there, and the whole thing was a sad fiasco that was uncomfortable for everyone to witness.

That girl is going through the pits. Why dont you all stop and think about how you would feel if a guy that you married and have children with, comes in your life, says he loves you and then completely ruins your life for his own selfish gain. That Kevin bastard thingy completely mooched off the poor girl and is now trying to take away the babies so he receives MORE child support on top of the alimony and child support he ALREADY GETS FROM HER! She has pressures coming from all ends and the girl needs a break. Its pretty sad when you realize how the world is so eager to drive a person to the breaking point. It reminds me of a story in my town where some dumb kids yelled at a person who was standing on the railing of the bridge to jump and the woman did. Those kids are gonna live with guilt forever because they thought it would be "funny" and "entertaining" to kick someone when they're down. You say Britney is scum but the only scum i see is someone who wishes harm and death on a fellow human being. Grow a heart.

Why is everyone saying her vma performance sucked??? It was awesome!! She rocked it! Brit is back and better than ever. She was sexy and her voice sounded great! Her dancing could have been a tad better but even that was pretty good. She is awesome! A great role model and a loving mommy so lay off of her!

I've been saying for a long time that Britney is going to end up dead. I've never really been a fan of hers, but I hope for her sake and her kids' sakes that she finds what she's looking for and gets the help she needs before it's too late.
I also think it's ironic to listen to her old song "Lucky" nowadays, it's kind of creepy considering what's happened with her.
