I think it's great.
I stood in at my father's marriage once as his "best person" (I'm female). To me, a wedding is about having the people beside you that you want to support you...the people who have supported you.
It's not a gender thing. It's about heart.

She may be tired of her relationship with him on Grey's Anatomy, but in real-life, Katherine Heigl can't get enough of T.R. Knight.
Not only did he help her celebrate her recent 29th birthday, but Knight, 34, reveals in the current issue of Us Weekly that he'll be in his Grey's Anatomy castmate's wedding party.
He is going to be a bridesman when she ties the knot with singer Josh Kelley, 27, on December 23.
"I'm standing up there and all," Knight told Us at an L.A. benefit for the Trevor Project on December 2. "So I have to go and get the tux. And I am still deciding on a gift!"

I do not see anything wrong with having a guy friend of the bride be a "bridesman". I have a friend that was the 'Man of Honor' so to speak at a wedding. He was the brides best friend. Who better to be in that position. He stood on the bridesmaids side. Great day.
I would of loved to see the wedding. I bet it was beautiful. TR is a great friend. I am glad that he agreed to stand up for her.
Thirteen years ago, my wife and I got married. My best friend, was my best maid, and her best friend was her man of honor. Neither are gay, and there was no negative comments made of the arrangement. Obviously, I don't see a problem with having a member of the opposite sex stand up at a wedding, and no one at the Mississippi wedding did either.
The People Who Left Nasty Comments, Grow Up.
There Is Nothing Wrong With Being A Bridesman.
And So What If Someone Is Gay Or Lesbian, It Doesnt Make A Difference.
I am a former wedding consultant. I have held over 500 weddings and trust me, I have seen it all. It is very common for men to be a bridesman or a man of honor. I have also done weddings where the "Best Woman" or "Groomswoman" is in the bridal party. Having a woman on the man's side is not a common as the bridesman.
Most people accept without saying much at all. In the weddings I did, most people knew that the bride was very good friends with a man and it was no surprise to them. Trust me I have done much stranger weddings than having a man stand for his best female friend.
I was married two years ago, and when it came to deciding on my maid of honor, I felt that I should choose the person closest to me, and that was my brother!!! So I had a Man of Honor!!! He stood right there next to me, and even fixed my dress!!! I am sooo glad I made that decision, and wouldn't have changed a thing!!! =) (It even looked good because my bridesmaids dresses were solid black with pearl accesories, so my brother in the black tux looked great with the girls!!!) I'm glad to see others do what makes them happy, even if its not the "norm"
I think it's fantastic. One of my former teachers was marrying for the second time and decided she didn't want a big wedding party. Her only attendant was her brother. It was actually very sweet and sentimental.
23 years ago my husband had a female usher(we only had a best man and a maid of honor) and it was the talk, now all this time later it is still a big deal. The world needs to stop worrying about all these trivial things and get on with the real important stuff, how to live our lives to help others, and not be so judgemental. And yes, Jesus would approve of that.
Doesn't anyone have spellcheck? What is with all of the hate that so many people carry around. Why can't you live and let live? If it doesn't affect you personally, let it be.
When I was married 2 years ago, my husband refused to let me have my best friend Tom stand on my side of the aisle when we got married, but did agree to have him as one of his groomsmen. I didn't care where he stood, as long as he was a part of the biggest day of my life.
You know what's funny? Thirty years ago only "bleeps" wore earrings. And back in the day we had ignorant, hateful morons in America beating the snot out of anyone who had the courage to wear an earring. Nowadays, though, we see big, burly, mean-looking athletes with 2 or 3 earrings in each ear. Meanwhile, the ignorant morons have followed that trend toward wearing earrings. So, when athletes begin standing in as bridesmen for their female friends, the ignorant morons will rush to follow suit or "follow gown" once again. You see, the ignorant must ALWAYS follow those with the courage and foresight required to move forward.
i think this is amazing. she is showing that even though shes a hollywood actress shes gonna do this her way, shes a beautiful woman and he is a handsome man. If she wants him to be her bridesman that why shouldnt she? i dont see all you haters being invited to her wedding....its no skin off your nose. so why dont you keep your mouths shut and let them be. all you people that are saying that you hate gays and they will burn in hell....dont you know that "god" accepts all people.....he will be frowning upon you. not them
grow up. seriously
It is a great idea. My best friend is a guy, and I would hate to "make" my future husband have him stand on his side over someone he would have otherwise chosen.
I have never heard of a bridesman before, but hey I am 47 things have changed and if TR wants to do it it awesome. He is such a jewel anyway...not only adorable but real. I would love to meet him and just sit and chat. He just seems so down to earth......Love ya TR, if I ever get married again want to be in mine????
My best friend is a man and it didn't make sense to have him standing on my now husband's side just because he's a man. So, I made him my "Man of Honor," along with my Maid of Honor and Matron of Honor. It is the bride and groom's day and unless they are truly doing something amazingly crass, disrespectful, and down-right impolite, they should have whomever they wish next to them on their wedding day.
I fu(k him. He's one hot gay man! MmmmHmm.
I love TR. And of course there's noting wrong with him being a bridesman.
lol at people taking this so personally.
I HAVE NO ISSUE WITH T.R. STANDING UP FOR HIS FRIEND AT HER WEDDING IT IS THE BRIDES DAY AND SHE SHOULD HAVE WHOMEVER SHE CHOOSES STANDING BY HER SIDE. HOWEVER I STOPPED WATCHING GREYS ANATOMY DUE TO THE WAY THE ISIAH WASHINGTON SITUATION WAS HANDLED AND FEEL BOTH T.R. KNIGHT AND KATHERYN HEIGL'S PUBLIC STATEMENTS DURING THAT TIME WERE UNFAIR, HATEFUL, AND DISRESPECTFUL IN LIGHT THE FACT MR. WASHINGTON WAS SILENCED BY THE NETWORK AND UNABLE TO DEFEND HIS ACTIONS PUBLICALLY.
I cannot believe all the awful comments people made. They made me cringe.
Everyone who said anything bad about homosexual people... you should all live with the shame, and guilt of what you've said. Be ashamed of yourselves to the furthest extent... you are the ones who are horrible, awful, ugly people.
I think it's wonderful that she's not afraid to have her best friends, male or female, beside her on her important day. One of my very best friends is a guy, he's not gay, and I want him by me on my wedding day too. It's her wedding, and I don't think it would've mattered if T.R. is gay or not, she would've had him next to her no matter what.
i think it's so stupid if you hate on people who are gay. how come it's not ok to hate on people who are a different religon than you or a different race, but it's considered acceptable if you hate on gay people???? stop hating and learn to accept people, because everyone is different.
These 2 are ridiculous. Not b/c of him being a bridesman, but b/c of what they stand for. They're both disgusting.
Phucking gay bastard must be all pink with excitement. I can't stand him and his f.a.g hag. They both made me stop watching Grey's.
Last year when my male friend got married, he had his sister as a groomsman. She wore a black dress that went w/the bridesmaid dresses. Nothing wrong with it. You want your best friends standing next to you, whether they're male or female.
My husband's best friend (and cousin) was his best woman at our wedding. It wasn't about what people thought, it was about him being comfortable and happy with the people on his sad. She wore a beautiful black, strapless dress so she appeared to belond on his side whereas the ladies on my side wore yellow.
She's not a lesbian, and it has nothing to do with that. In fact, one of my bridesmaids was a lesbian and she wore a dress, she's definitley not a man because she's a lesbian!
It's not about boys on one side and girls on the other, it's who you are there to support, the bride or the groom. Has everyone forgotten the purpose of groomsmen and bridesmaids? They aren't just there for pictures, folks, they are there because they are supporting the bride, groom or both.
Jesus would be so proud of all the gay haters. I just read in the Bible about how we should threaten anyone who differs from what we believe and that narrow mindedness is the key to salvation.
Amen.
In weddings past, bridesmaids could consist of relatives of the groom, and groomsmen could consist of relatives of the bride. Why can they not do that with friends? This is getting SOOOOO ridiculous!
I think it's great that he is going to be in her wedding! If someone is one of your best friends then they should be in your wedding party, and for everyone asking why he won't just be a groomsman, it is because he is a friend of the brides not the groom...haven't you ever been to a wedding?
