Lisa Marie Presley is suing British newspaper the Daily Mail for libel for a story claiming she was "piling on the pounds" and "has gained weight like her father Elvis."
Her attorney Simon Smith said the mom-to-be, 40, is "deeply upset and offended by this article, especially as it was widely published just as she and her family were meant to be celebrating her happy news," according to a statement released to Reuters.
In a post on her MySpace page last week, Presley said she felt forced to announce her pregnancy after British tabloids and Web sites (Usmagazine.com never reported on the singer) began viciously speculating on her weight gain.
“Now that things are confirmed, hopefully they can stop all of the harassment, and I can stop dodging the continuous bullets,” she wrote.
“It is unfortunate that I couldn't have announced something that is this much of a blessing and that has made us so incredibly happy under better circumstances.”

While it's true that many celebrities have big ego's and should more or less get over the media gossiping about them, society in general should do more with their lives and times than feed into this wasteland of garbage. How would anyone here feel if a story was published about them in a global market, putting them on the spot saying that they were fat? Or pill popping? Or what if some newspaper like the New York Times painted a portrait of you that was as a monster who was packing on weight while self destructing? Whether you had talent or not, or Money, or fame, or were just a begger, you wouldn't want the world to think that way about you if it weren't true. She's not being a diva, she's trying to make the newspapers responsible for what they print. If you care so little about Celebs stop buying the tabloids!

Honestly! She is a round person and you do gain weight as your pregnancy progresses, that's the baby growing so they weren't false claims! Sure it is sad to think of a deceased parent, but she is so full of herself, nobody forced her to say anything and who's stopping her from celebrating? Why would someone care so much about rumors? If it's not true and you and your family know, does it really matter? I am in high school and I deal with rumors, why can't an adult who grew up around this would be more mature instead of whining and claiming she was forced or felt forced, nobody made her, NOT ONE!!! It is pathetic! She is wasting her money and time... If she truly wanted to be happy and celebrate, she would, I think she is just jealous of the "Angelinas" who get their pregnancies endlessly documented and attention hungry! Did anyone actually hear about the articles until after her little hissy fit? What is her claim? Harassment? If this is enough to sue for harassment, Britney can make a fortune and I can go and sue my big brother's friends and pay for college! Get over it Lisa Marie!!!!

While I don't like her at all, I think it's awful for the press to make any kind of comment like that. To compare her to her dead dad who self-destructed is like saying she will go down the same path; they create drama where there is none. Furthermore, it's no one's business if she's gained weight, pregnancy or no pregnancy.

11.44 they sue because they can...they have egos that are so big they can't avoid suing, and there are plenty of attorneys willing to sue for them because they know it's BIG money...but when it's the little people who actually have a legitimate claim, well, to heck with them, they can't get help at all.

Doesn't it seem curious that Lisa M keeps popping up in the media now that her mom is going to be on Dancing With The Stars? This lawsuit is silly- and its a publicity stunt. If her privacy meant that much to her she should of left it at a brief announcement of her pregnancy. The first articles were wrong and based without any support- and it was unfair. But she set the record straight- now let it go.

I don't want to hear it has anything to do with what they said about her father. He was and always will be a big part of Hollywood. People actually think the man is actually still alive. I am sure there have been plenty of articles written about Elvis that she could have *sued* over but she didn't. She needs to move on and I hope she loses the lawsuit. And by suing this time and no other time, is everything else we have read about her true??

Couldnt she have just ignored it? It's not like she *had* to say anything period if she really didnt want to. The nature of the tabloid was pretty vicious but people always know to take what gossip mags write with a grain of salt. I think the comparison to her father is what actually set her off and hit a sore spot for her to want to sue. They just masked it as *being bullied into giving a pregnancy announcement.* I do think that the Daily Mail deserves to get sued, based on principle alone, over the things they said about her father though. It sounds like, despite how much its going to cost them, the Daily Mail got exactly what they set out to get...an answer to everyone's suspicions- her being pregnant. She shouldve realized it was a ploy and not given in, let people keep speculating!
