**Brittany Murphy** and her fiance of eight months, Joe Macaluso, have called off their engagement. The couple, who had been engaged since December of 2005, met on the set of the film Little Black Book, where Macaluso was a production best boy.

When Us Weekly asked Murphy about her engagement at the Teen Choice Awards on August 20, the actress told Us, "Everything is going wonderful. I'm just living every moment, enjoying my day. I'm most importantly enjoying the moment and enjoying the days and utilizing them for all their worth."

She also told Us that she turns to a higher power during times of distress. "I have a lot of faith. I pray a lot. I'm a nondenominational Christian. My guiding light a lot comes through my mom and hopefully, I think having an optimistic view of life in any manner. And a sense of humor -- that's another one of the greatest things that my mother taught me. As bleak and dour as a situation may be, there is always a way to flip it around and laugh about it. Always."

Murphy was previously engaged to talent manager Jeff Kwatinetz for six months in 2004. The 28-year-old actress has six films in the works. This year she lends her voice (along with **Nicole Kidman**, Robin Williams, and Hugh Jackman) to the animated film Happy Feet, and will be reprising her role as "Shellie" in the sequel to Sin City in 2007. She is also currently at work on an album which, the actress tells Us, is progressing “methodically, slowly, and wonderfully."
