Cruise Regrets Brooke Shields Controversy

**Tom Cruise** regrets lashing out at Brooke Shields in interviews with the Today show and Access Hollywood last year, according to Kathleen Kennedy, the longtime producing partner of Steven Spielberg.
 
Kennedy told the New York Daily News that Cruise realizes he went too far when he bashed Shields for taking antidepressants to fight postpartum depression. (Shields later fired back at Cruise, defending her choice in a New York Times editorial.)
 
"That, he deeply regrets," Kennedy said.
 
The producer also said that many in Hollywood were "shocked and dismayed" earlier this week when Sumner Redstone openly criticized Cruise's behavior over the last year.
 
Kennedy also denied rumors from last summer that Spielberg was incensed that Cruise's relationship with **Katie Holmes** overshadowed publicity for his film "War of the Worlds."
 
"It's not true," Kennedy, who produced the movie, told the Daily News. "[Cruise] was a consummate professional. He's done nothing wrong."
 
Spielberg is a Paramount powerbroker, but he "had no advance knowledge of Sumner Redstone's position," rep Marvin Levy said yesterday. "The story broke when Steven was on an airplane. He found out when the plane landed," Levy confirmed.
 
The Spielberg shutout surprised Hollywood insiders who thought that Spielberg's position as head of Paramount-owned DreamWorks Studios would have warranted a heads-up on the situation.

fourth, i doubt he is really sorry because i'm sure he wouldn't publically state his apology over brooke's anti-depression use because of his close belief in scientology which forbids anti-depressents.

yeah, he finally regrets it because his career is going down the toilet. that was completely unacceptable. even thought im not really for any kind of pills or whatever, i think everyone should use what works for them. i just know that if i had any kids and i became depressed, i should be able to go to the pharmacy and get what i need without being ridiculed. what he said was completly out of line and ignorant. i really give my props to brooke and her story. its such a controversial subject, and she had the guts to talk about it.

Very Interesting. Perhaps people should think VERY hard. He used Brook Shields as an EXAMPLE, and MAtt Lauer kept pushing and pushing to where he did cross the line. However BEFORE you have a serious issue disscussed on LIVE International Television know what the heck you are talking about. Matt Lauer was ill prepared. I think most women would love for our husbands or boyfriends to shout out that they love us, but Tom Cruise has taken things a little too far. Also, I don't know anything about Scientology, but I don't think he should be shoving his views down everyones throats. I used to really like Tom and I still think he is one of the best actors, but I don't really care for Tom the person. It seems to me that he is a little to controlling of Katie any more.

I would guess Brooke moved past all this a long time ago. It didn't damage her career or image one bit - if anything, I personally admire her for standing up and speaking back! It's just a sad attempt at damage control for Tom's camp. To be so very outspoken, HE hasn't said anything about being sorry or regretting it...only through a rep.
Makes one wonder if HE regrets a thing. I doubt it.

Gosh, he made those comments how long ago and only now he "deeply regrets" them, according to his rep. Give me a break, Tom! Did Katie (or "Kate" as you call her) go through PPD and only then did you recognize the need for some women to receive medical help?

This is really sad.

This really sounds like Tom got caught with his hand in the cookie jar...he's not really sorry he said and did those things, only that he got caught!
