Kanye West’s former fiancee Alexis Phifer opens up to Usmagazine.com about the rapper breaking off their engagement.
"It's been hard and not been an easy time. I tried to keep things private but yes, it's sad when things end like this and we truly do remain friends,” Phifer tells Us. “I wish him the best in his future and all of his endeavors. He's one of the most talented people I've ever met, that's for sure."
Murmurs of a split began late last week with rumors erupting Monday morning over airwaves and blogs. A source close to the couple tells Us that "Kanye is possessed by the tour and everything going on and just couldn't keep it going. They are still friends and have broken up and gotten back together before, so it could work out."
West, 30, proposed to Phifer in 2006 while vacationing in Italy.
A source close to the couple tells Us, "He broke up with her. Alexis still doesn't really know what happened. It's like she lost her best friend too. Things may change one day. He embraced her son and supported her business and her with all his heart. It's just a rough time right now."
A rep for West had no comment.
The couple — who were honored at Us' Hot Hollywood bash last year — had been dating since 2002, but split briefly in 2004 when West briefly hooked up with Brooke Crittendon, an assistant at MTV, a source told Us.

It sucks that Kanye & Alexis broke up, and it's great that they're remaining friends, and who knows, maybe they will get back together & possibly get married & have kids!? We'll just wait & see to find out what happens with the both of them!?

There is no surprise here..he is the ULTIMATE mommy's boy (even if his mother has passed away) and mommy's boys don't do well in relationships. They do watch a lot of adult material though. Next up: Usher.

Hardly surprising considering that NO ONE loves Kayne more than Kayne himself. He'll tell you he's the greatest thing since the the coming of the messiah and he is just beyond flabbergasted when he doesn't win ALL of the awards that he believes are owed to him for being the greatest. His arrogance well exceeds his talent. Count yourself lucky Ms. Phifer and run, don't walk, the other direction. Someday you will me a wonderful and talented man with a normal healthy ego that also has room for you as well.
