Persistence paid off for Pete Wentz's relationship with Ashlee Simpson!
"I was in the 'friend zone' with her for a good solid year," he told L.A. radio station 98.7 Tuesday. "I spent a long time in the 'friend zone.'"
"I'd be calling her and following her around like a puppy dog," he said about courting his pregnant fiancee before they started dating officially in 2006.
Simpson clarified during the radio interview that they were "friends with benefits" – but they got along right away.
"The first time we really hung out she flashed me," Wentz recalled.
"I lifted my dress over my head," Simpson joked.
The couple announced their engagement in April and Usmagazine.com broke news that Simpson is expecting their first child.
"I get a look [from her] every time I don't say fiancee," Wentz said.
The couple will wed in a small ceremony at a "top secret" location this Saturday, a source told Us.

Am I the only one who thinks Pete Wentz is gay? I mean, just look at him, people! He openly admits to buying his clothes off the women's racks, he designs women's t-shirts and hoodies that he actually wears, and HE DRESSES ASHLEY. Either this marriage is a publicity stunt, or she's going to be left at home while he dates other men. Pregnant or not (I vote not), I don't see this one "going the distance."

"Friends with benefits" Maybe he was joking around with those comments, but if you respect your fiance wouldn't you keep personal things private? I don't see it lasting, creepy Daddy Simpson will stick his nose farther into their business and try to exploit them. Maybe Ashlee has the backbone Jessica didn't have to set up boundaries.

I noticed early on in their relationship that he seemed to be "controlling" her. He would dress her (according to an interview he did) and she seems more timid than she did before Pete Wentz. I hope for the best for her though.
