Ashlee Razzle-Dazzles ‘Em in Chicago

Ashlee Simpson proves once and for all that she can sing without the aid of prerecorded vocal accompaniment in this clip of her performance in the musical Chicago. Interspersed among the song-and-dance numbers, Ashlee tells AmericasNewsToday.com that she didn't choose musical theater to differentiate herself from sister Jessica.
 
“I never really found it a pressure to live up to my sister,” she says. “And that’s why it’s so cool that I’m doing theater right now because I grew up being a dancer and I always just wanted to perform.”
 
Meanwhile, Ashlee recently sat down with opera phenom turned talkshow host Charlotte Church to discuss her debut on London’s West End. Church is surprisingly hilarious (and handy with the photoshop!), and has a fantastic not-entirely-safe-for-work potty mouth.
 
During her time on the The Charlotte Church Show (see clip here via Mollygood), Ashlee weighs in on her feud with Lindsay Lohan, who once accused her of stealing boyfriend Wilmer Valderrama. “I didn’t steal her boyfriend!” Ash insists. “He was my boyfriend before hers!”
 
She also talks about recently buying a house and says that she can actually see her parents’ home from her new place – which undoubtedly comes in handy when Joe Simpson is dictating his plastic surgery requests via the string-and-tin-can stretching between their bedroom windows.

I prefer Renee's interpretation of Roxy. She has a sweet and naughty voice that Ashlee doesn't have. Ashlee's voice is hoarse and Rock songs suit her better than this. A good try for Ashlee, though.

I watched the video and thought she did an ok job. I have seen a number of shows on Broadway and have found that some of the musicals stars sometimes do not have that great a voice; their charisma, presence, etc., are what makes them so good. So I say give the girl a chance. And remember, she was not able to pick her family members!

my favorite part was when she turned around and i counted the vertabrae of her spine. so hott. i also liked all the "dancing". i mean, kicking your legs out in front of you to and fro and an occasional twirl and arm gesture? so dramatic! kudos about the tin can and plastic surgery. my thoughts read aloud.

Uh, no. She only proved that she's an amateur. She wasn't very good AT ALL. After seeing the Broadway revival in its blitzkrieg, and after Renee Zelleweger--who surprised me into enjoying her performance because I hate her--Ashlee looks like......a stupid, silly girl who is mediocre (at best!) at everything she attempts. Yuck.

I didn't like it.True Ashlee was an actress blah blah blah but Ashlee would be nowhere if it weren't for her reality show and the same goes for Jessica. Remeber back in the day Jess was a nobody always in third place behind Britney and Christina.

Ashlee was better than I'd thought she would be, but she's still nowhere near as good as Renee Zellweger was (and I'm not a fan of either). Renee Zellweger was absolutely stunning as Roxy.

she would have never made it had she tried to do it all on her own. Her voice is mediocre and all her songs are written for her. Give thanks to your sister, Ashlee, she got you where you are.
