Stylist to Brad Pitt: Lose the Beard!

Friday – November 20, 2009 – 2:08pm

With his scraggly gray beard more unkempt than ever, Brad Pitt looked unrecognizable as he walked through Nice International Airport in France Thursday.

So what's with the out-of-control facial fuzz?

Take a look at all of Brad Pitt's explorations in facial hair!

Pitt, 45, is likely "marking a transition or marking a new stage in his career," says Dr. Alan Peterkin, psychiatrist and author of One Thousand Beards: A Cultural History of Facial Hair.

Peterkin tells Usmagazine.com that a beard allows a man "to change his public face. Most men growing facial hair around his age are being ironic. It's a bit of a wink of the eye; 'I'm not taking this too seriously and nor should you.'"

Angelina Jolie's man -- who has often sported facial hair -- also may be "tired of being a part of one of the most beautiful couples in the world. He wants to try a new look."

Check out these stars before they were hunks!

Although Peterkin tells Us the look may appear "desperate on another man's face," Pitt's facial structure makes it work. "With a face like Brad's, you can do almost anything," he tells Us. "It is such a well put-together, symmetrical face."

But celebrity hairstylist Sally Hershberger isn't a fan.

"I don't love gray facial hair, especially on someone as handsome as Brad," she tells Us.

Now we know where he gets it! See son Maddox's wildest hairstyles!

Although she says "he has some reasoning behind his look," she suggests that he trim it and dye it all brown.

Still, she tells Us, "I would prefer for him to shave it completely."

It's for a part in a film, all actors have to change their looks for parts in films. And even if he did have a beard cos he wanted it, or are we to tell him to get rid of even if we don't like it, he can make his own decision. He shouldn't listen to some stylist he's never met before just cos she doesn't like it and if it's for a film then she definitely can't tell him to get rid of it. And I'm also fed up with people saying things like "Angelina Jolie's man" and "Brangelina" they have names.

Finally a fellow white male getting out of touch with his feminine side and in touch with his man side! Grow that beard, bub! if white chicks dont like it.. there are always arabic chicks. They are use to beards and nobody is as faithful as they are. (er of course you'd have to convert to islam. There is always a catch!)

I think that everybody needs to bloody grow up and get over the issue of appearances being everything. Looks are not just what make people sexy. That's what everyone wants us to believe so we buy their expensive products, get that treatment, get that botox. It's all crap. Personally, I believe the beard makes Brad even more sexy. Alot of women like their men to look like men, not hairless little boys who spend more time in the mirror than a woman. Way to go Brad!!!! Whether it be for a movie or not. I think it's bloody great. It does suit you. Hope you keep it!!!!! As for all you out there who are 'off him 'because of his beard, I think you are a bunch of shallow, close-minded, high maintenance people. You all need to get a life and find some more important issues to concern yourselves with.

As a professional MUA, IMO beards are fine if they're trimmed and maintained. His is not. Gray can be sexy also. The mustache looks fake, because it is trimmed straight across and the diz is off center. Basically, I think Brad is stuck in the 90's grunge thing, but because he has to change his looks so much at work in film, I can understand his need to be free and let loose.

Beards may suit a lot of men, but Brad isn't one of them. A stubbly scruff may suit him, but not a scraggly gray one.
