Baby’s got back — thanks to the Booty Belt!
Kate Hudson called the Booty Belt, a lower-body fitness device, her “new obsession” in an Oct. 26 Instagram post that gained over 74,000 likes…much to the surprise of its creator, Dominic Banks.
The 36-year-old Portland-based personal trainer says that the star-studded shout-out from Hudson, 36, came as a complete – but welcome – surprise.
“One of my clients texted me,” Banks tells Us Weekly of his social media stroke of luck. “All of a sudden, my phone just started going bananas. It still hasn’t stopped. I guess that lady must be a powerful lady. I seriously had no idea!”
Banks (who’s only seen Hudson’s You, Me and Dupree, for the record) has been bending over backwards for years to promote the Booty Belt. As a product of a single-parent household, he watched his mom struggle to make ends meet during his childhood…and vowed that he’d do something to change her life. Coupled with hearing the ambitious story of fellow Portlander, Phil Knight of Nike, Banks was motivated to find a way to make more money and keep his clients. In 2013, he launched the product that slowly traveled from the hands — and, err, bums — of his Oregon clientele…all the way to New York City.
“I had maybe $700 in the bank when the Today show called me,” he says. “It was in 2014, the weekend of the Super Bowl. They did a video — and that’s when the national boom happened.”
Banks is riding even higher after Hudson’s invaluable post. He tells Us that after she Instagrammed, he sold 200 belts in less than 24 hours — at $115 a piece!
“I’m going to have to send some roses to her,” he says, laughing. “You can have whatever you want from me. I’ll do whatever you want!”
