In 2014, Keltie Knight was “really scared” by the mysterious symptoms afflicting her body. The television correspondent, who joined Entertainment Tonight in 2017, was exhausted, gaining weight and “my hair started falling out,” she reveals in the new issue of Us Weekly.
But it was when she began to lose sight in her left eye and was unable to read the teleprompter at work that the former Bachelor contestant reveals she reached her breaking point: “I got really suicidal,” the 36-year-old says. “I just thought, ‘I need a break. I need to get off this treadmill of feeling so awful.’”
Diagnosed with the thyroid condition Hashimoto’s disease, Knight felt “embarrassed to say anything” about her ailments at first. “I sort of was in denial,” she admits. After finally confiding in her husband, Chris, and her doctor, she has now found a regimen that keeps her symptoms under control. In addition to taking “the right medicine and supplements,” the Ladygang podcast host sticks to a gluten-free diet and is an advocate for therapy.
Talking it out, she says, helped her “get over some of the guilt” around being sick. “[I felt] like it was my fault,” she reveals, “like somehow being a woman who was ambitious was ruining my body.” Therapy “really helped me heal my outlook,” she adds. “We work out our bodies at the gym and we need to work out our minds too.”
Today, she wants to share this new perspective — which also helped her after an April 17 car accident landed her in the hospital with a broken arm — with the world. As she tells Us, “I’m in a better place than I’ve ever been.”
