No more hiding under prison jumpsuits! Orange Is the New Black’s Laverne Cox took it all off in a new photo shoot for Allure magazine, posing nude in racy black and white pics.
“Going through life you try to cover and hide, but it doesn’t really work,” Cox, 30, told Allure.
The proud transgender actress was hesitant at first to put her body on display for the mag, but ultimately gave in, understanding what the photos would do for the trans community.
“I said no initially, thought about it, and said no again,” she said.” “But I’m a black transgender woman. I felt this could be really powerful for the communities that I represent. Black women are not often told that we’re beautiful unless we align with certain standards. Trans women certainly are not told we’re beautiful. Seeing a black transgender woman embracing and loving everything about her body might be inspiring for some folks. There’s a beauty in the things we think are imperfect. It sounds very cliché, but its true."
Cox is no stranger to being a spokeswoman for transgender people. In June 2014, she made history covering Time magazine for a piece titled “The Transgender Tipping Point: America’s next civil rights frontier.”
But she isn’t the only one stripping down for Allure’s “The Naked Truth” spread. In each image, the female stars lie on a cloth, showing off her bare bodies in a very simplistic setting.
Kickass Sleepy Hollow star Nicole Beharie got comfy and used the shots to embrace her big recent birthday.
“I just turned 30, and I was really nervous [about posing]…But I wanted to celebrate and accept my body in an artistic way,” the actress told Allure.
Also appearing in the pics is Vikings star Katheryn Winnick, who asked her pals for advice on posing nude, and House of Cards actress Sandrine Holt.
“I’m French, so I’m quite comfortable being nude,” Holt quipped.
