Her breast decision! Melissa Gilbert will be looking a bit different in 2015, and that’s just fine by her. The Little House on the Prairie alum, 50, posted a very personal blog, titled "A Tale of Two Titties," on Dec. 31 about her decision to remove her breast implants.
“The bottom line…or top line.. is that; A. I am concerned for my health and 2. I don't like the way they look or feel. Frankly, I'd like to be able to take a Zumba class without the fear that I'll end up with two black eyes,” she wrote.
Taking her fans through her journey to get two breast implants, the Dancing With the Stars season 14 contestant revealed that it was motherhood that first sparked the push.
“And then my husband at the time, referred to my boobs as…and I quote….’Socks full of marbles with knots at the top,’” she wrote of her insecurities being fueled by her ex husband Bo Brinkman after giving birth to her first son Dakota in 1989.
Soon after she got a boob job, noting, “The surgery went perfectly. I was sore for a while after but nothing too awful and my boobs looked really natural. Most importantly,…and most pathetically really…my self-esteem went back up.”
She also revealed that her time on Dancing With the Stars in 2012 found her looking her worst.
“I had spent most of my life pressured to look a certain way and I believed the hype,” she wrote. “The height of this obsession with my outward appearance culminated with my appearance on the dancing show. It was all about spray tan and glitter and glamor and what other people think and being skinny, way too skinny!! Yuck!!”
So at the start of the New Year, Gilbert — who wed actor Timothy Busfield in April 2013 — decided to get her implants removed. She concluded her blog, “Aging is a gift not a curse. Love yourself. You are perfectly beautiful. You are enough.”
On Jan. 6, Gilbert tweeted, “In recovery. Surgery went great. [Now] the recovery begins. #boobies!”
