Anyone who has ever read Instagram comments had to have seen this coming. As soon as April Love Geary announced that she and boyfriend Robin Thicke are expecting baby No. 2 —six months after welcoming their daughter Mia — the mommy-shaming brigade came out in full force. Rather than congratulate the 23-year-old model on the exciting news, online trolls tore her apart for having back-to-back children and for not being married to the “Blurred Lines” singer.
“Didn’t your doctor tell you, your body needs time to recover? You ruined the best years of your life,” wrote one person. Another bully, who got Geary’s age wrong, bashed her for “being only 21 and having no goals other than being pregnant TWICE in the same year.” A third warned that she should have given her “body time to heal” from giving birth on February 22.
More conservative fans took issue with Geary having children with a man who is not her husband. “Yes. Celebrate the fact that you’re having another child with your boyfriend. You losers should get married,” read one comment.
Geary hit back at the haters on Instagram Story. “Why are women so obsessed with telling me I need a ring? Getting married is the easy part, seeing how you are together AFTER having the babies is the hard part,” she wrote on Tuesday, August 21. “We’re in 2018. Not the 1950’s. Women don’t NEED to get married before having babies. Ya’ll need to chill.”
Earlier on Tuesday, Geary shared a video of her infant holding a sonogram photo. “Well someone is going to be a big sister next year!” she captioned the clip. “We’re so excited to share with ya’ll that I’m expecting again.” The 5-foot-11 beauty added that she and Thicke, 41, will find out if it’s a boy or girl on Saturday, August 26, and that their bundle of joy is due March 10 — dad’s birthday!
The musician is also dad of son, Julian, 8, with ex-wife Paula Patton. The former couple announced their split in 2014. He and Geary made their first public appearance as a couple in March 2015.
