Who runs Beyonce's world? Girls! One girl, in particular — daughter Blue Ivy, born to the singer and husband Jay-Z in January 2012.
"She's my road dog," the superstar says of her only child in the March issue of Vogue. "She's my homey, my best friend."
At 31, Beyonce has had a banner career, with 17 Grammy Awards, countless hits, and record-breaking album sales. Most recently, she blew football fans away with her explosive Super Bowl halftime show and performed the national anthem at President Barack Obama's inauguration ceremony. But none of that compares to being a mother to baby Blue.
"I had a very strong connection with my child," the "Crazy in Love" singer tells Vogue's Jason Gay of giving birth to her daughter last year. "I felt like when I was having contractions, I envisioned my child pushing through a very heavy door. And I imagined this tiny infant doing all the work, so I couldn't think about my own pain…We were talking. I know it sounds crazy, but I felt a communication."
Beyonce goes on to say that the day Blue was born was "the best day of [her] life." And every day since has been better because of it. "I feel like I have something that has grounded me so much more," she gushes to the magazine. "Family has always been important. I've always had my mother and my father and my husband. But it's just…Life is so much more than…It's not defined by any of this [fame or money]."
