Bobby Cannavale and Rose Bryne have given their newborn baby boy an unusual moniker— which means when the teacher calls attendance, five other kids won’t look up (a problem Emmas and Noahs understand all too well!).
The Boardwalk Empire star and Bryne, who welcomed their second son four weeks ago, named the newborn Rafa. He joined big brother Rocco, 2.
“I hadn’t given one of my children a Latin name yet, so I wanted to honor my mom’s side of the family,” the 47-year-old told Entertainment Tonight on Sunday, December 10. “And, you know, Rafael Nadal had such a great year and we were constantly keeping up with him and watching all his matches so we were like, ‘How about Rafa? That goes well with Rocco.’ And that was it.”
The sleep-deprived actor, who is also father of 22-year-old Jake from a previous marriage, said Rocco isn’t dealing with any jealousy issues. “He’s a terrific big brother,” Cannavale revealed. “He’s wonderful to him and really gentle with him,*** and my oldest is great with both of them. We couldn’t ask for more.
Cannavale reprises his role as Eric McCormack’s love interest Vince in the Will & Grace reboot later this season. “I can’t tell you any more than that,” he said of his appearance. “There definitely is closure to that character and I think people will be genuinely surprised. It was a really funny episode to shoot.”
In addition to caring for their children, Byrne and Cannavale manage two successful acting careers. The twosome have worked together on three projects: 2014’s Annie and Adult Beginners, and 2015’s Spy.
