First comes marriage, then comes baby! WNBA stars Brittney Griner and Glory Johnson are expecting their first child together, the couple announced on Instagram on Thursday, June 4.
“#SUCCESS #BLESSED#WelcomeToTheJohnsonGrinerFamily,” 24-year-old Johnson, who is carrying the pregnancy, captioned a “bun in the oven” cake on Instagram to announce their happy news.
“We are excited for Glory and Brittney and wish them the best in the upcoming year,” Tulsa Shock president Steve Swetoha said in a statement via Facebook. “We look forward to seeing Glory back in a Shock unform in 2016."
The athletes, who got married last month following a nine-month engagement, used a sperm donor to conceive, TMZ reports.
The news comes after the Tulsa Shock and Phoenix Mercury players were arrested in April 2015 for allegedly assaulting each other.
“We're okay! @brittneygriner and I are home, injury-free, and still wedding planning!" Johnson clarified on Instagram following their altercation. "We know we must set better examples, even during the most trying times, and we are EXTREMELY sorry for all the negative attention we brought to ourselves, our family, and the league. WE are actively seeking help in order to do BETTER. Thanks for all the love, support, and prayers that were sent our way.”
This will be the first child for both.
