Christina Aguilera shared the spotlight with her 4-year-old daughter, Summer Rain, in Saint Louis, Missouri, on Wednesday, November 7. But the preschooler didn’t exactly grab the mic and start singing along with her mother.
“Summer begs me to come out every night on stage,” Aguilera captioned her Instagram video on Wednesday. “And then she gets shy . . . but loves it . . . and she’s taking it all in early . . .”
In the video, The Voice mentor, 37, sat on steps belting her 2002 hit “Beautiful.” Planted right beside her: a nervous-looking Summer, who was wearing noise-cancelling headphones.
“It’s beautiful, Sum!” the pop star exclaimed as she stroked the little girl’s hair. “You hear that? I love you guys!”
The five-time Grammy winner kicked off her Liberation Tour in September, and will wrap it up in St. Petersburg, Florida, on November 13. Last month, Aguilera Instagrammed a backstage photo of her “pre-show good luck charm” Summer.
Aguilera shares the little girl with her fiancé, Matthew Rutler. She is also mom of 10-year-old son, Max, with ex-husband Jordan Bratman. (The former couple split in 2010 after five years of marriage.)
The singer opened up about motherhood in 2016, explaining that women are asked to do too much.
“We’re expected to be pregnant, have the kids, breast-feed once we have the babies. And we’re expected to look amazing after baby, right? Keep our husbands and boyfriends interested — because we’re supposed to get back to sexy and keep things exciting in the bedroom. There’s such a long list,” she mused to Women’s Health in 2016. “Having children is the ultimate joy, and I love my kids, but women have to find time to nurture themselves. If someone has a baby, the first thing I’m like is, ‘Okay, are you taking care of you?'”
