Gabrielle Union’s daughter, Kaavia James, will most likely never have her name spelled correctly on a Starbucks cup.
“@kaaviajames pronounced Kah-Vee-Uh James,” the Being Mary Jane star, 46, captioned her Saturday, November 17, Instagram post. “She has 102 nicknames including but not limited to Kaav, Kaavi, Kaavi Baby, Kaavi J, Jamie, KJ, Nugget, Nug, Pooters.”
The We’re Going to Need More Wine author revealed that James is a tribute to her uncle and godfather, James Francis Glass.
“Union is her middle name,” wrote Union. She then referenced her years-long struggle with infertility, explaining, “I’ve waited this long so fo sho I was gonna get in there 🤷🏾♀️👶🏾☺.”
The Nebraska native and her husband, Miami Heat basketball player Dwyane Wade, welcomed their first child together via surrogate on November 7. Wade, 36, is currently taking paternity leave.
“With my daughter coming a couple weeks early, she’s a little tiny right now, so we’re making sure health-wise that she’s OK,” Wade told the Associated Press earlier this month. “And for me, once I leave and go back to the season, not really. Being able to be with me everywhere I go, this time right now, this bonding moment with my daughter is the most important thing in my life at this time. And then I’ll go from there, see how she’s doing and make a decision based on that.”
As a tribute to Kaavia James, the athlete had her name tattooed on his shoulders.
Wade is also dad of Zaire, 16, Zion, 11, and Xavier, 4, from previous relationships and he is raising his nephew, Dahveon.
