Jennifer Garner Warns Seth Meyers: Parenting Is ‘Going to Suck’

She doesn’t always go by the book! Jennifer Garner stopped by Late Night with Seth Meyers on Thursday, March 17, and gave the host some of her best parenting advice — throw away all the manuals.

Seth Meyers, 42, mentioned that he and his wife, Alexi Ashe, are expecting their first child and asked the Miracles From Heaven actress, 43, for some words of wisdom.

“Gosh, everyone gives you so much advice,” Garner said. “There are a lot of ‘experts’ out there, and as much as you think, ‘I’m going to follow what this person says. I’m going to follow what that person says. I’m going to read this book. I’m going to have that birth plan’ — It’s not up to you, dude.”

The mom of three said she read all the books, but it doesn’t really matter in the end. “You’re going to struggle. It’s going to suck, just like for everyone else,” she said. “Just know in your head this is all going to go to hell in a handbasket,” she added with a laugh.

The Danny Collins star has had more than a decade of parenting experience with daughters Violet, 10, and Seraphina, 7, and son Samuel, 4, who she shares with her ex-husband Ben Affleck. Garner recently opened up about coparenting with the Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice star, 43, on the Today show. “We’re doing really well,” she said. “The kids are great. They’ll be getting up and going to school soon, and Ben is there and he’ll be taking them. We will make it work.”
