Jessica Biel and Justin Timberlake practice sex-positive parenting with their 2-year-old son Silas. That means they talk openly with the toddler about his genitals so he never feels embarrassed about his body or confused about what it does.
“I know he’s really young, but I really believe that if you start this early there’s no shame,” Biel, 35, revealed at the 2018 MAKERS conference on Tuesday, February 6. “We just talk about it,” she added.
The chats aren’t serious — and often take place during bath time. Biel noted that she and her pop star husband of five years use “technical terms” for private parts. “If you want to laugh and say ‘vagina’ and laugh or say ‘penis,’ well do it, and laugh and get the giggles out.”
Meanwhile, Timberlake, 37, recently shared that he and Biel are working on Silas’ manners. “That’s a big deal in our house,” he told reporters at a February 1 press conference ahead of his Super Bowl halftime performance. “My main objective is he become a great person.”
The 7th Heaven alum previously told Us Weekly that Silas takes after his entertainer dad. “He’s a ham,” she gushed in 2016. Biel also got candid when asked about whether she ever feels mommy-guilt. “Oh, you mean like a minute!? And about 10 seconds ago. And just now!” she cracked. “I feel it all the time. It’s hard to find that balance, you know, between working and feeling like an independent person and like a woman again.”
