Being fruitful and multiplying — fast! 19 Kids and Counting star Jill Duggar is expecting her first child with husband Derick Dillard, TLC confirmed Wednesday, Aug. 20. The couple, married for only 60 days, have been more than vocal in interviews about wanting to start their own family. Below, Us Weekly rounds up five family-oriented moments the two have shared in the last few months.
1. April 2014: They Hint at Wanting “Many Kids”
Mom-to-be Jill, 23, and her now-husband, 25, had babies on their mind since their engagement. Back in April, Jill told ABC News that she and Derick were both looking forward to parenthood. “Both of us want as many kids as God will give us,” she said. “My parents have kept popping them out so we’ll see how [our] fertility is!”
He added, “We’ll just see what God brings along and it’s exciting.”
2. May 2014: Jill Reveals She’s Already Experienced With Childbirth
With 18 siblings, Jill has been training to be a midwife in the last year. The TLC star even shared her views on childbirth in an interview with parenting blog, Channel Mom, in May. “Of course, birth is unpredictable,” Duggar said, but her exposure to numerous births has led her to make mental notes about her future pregnancy. “I’m going take all of these points and exercise,” Duggar said, while experiencing “the benefit of natural childbirth.”
“God ultimately makes the decision,” she said. “In the meantime, [it’s the woman’s job in] making sure you’re healthy as a momma.”
3. Spring/Summer 2014: They Love to Play With Kids
Along with helping deliver babies, Jill has already taken to her Instagram to express her love for kids — especially her younger siblings. The reality star uploaded a picture of Derick on May 20, in which he cradles a tiny tot. “Derick got to hold one of our new babies when he visited me at the birth center today!” Jill wrote alongside the sweet snap of the dad-to-be smiling.
The following day, the two took Jill’s 13-year-old younger brother James go-karting. “Racing James!” Jill wrote alongside a snap of Derick at the wheel, facing off against little James. “He is a great chaperone!”
4. June 2014 to Present: They Prioritize Their Marriage
Since sharing their first kiss at the altar two months ago, Duggar and Dillard have been on cloud nine as newlyweds. The happy wife has shared dozens of Instagram snaps of life at the Dillard household, including ones of them kissing on Independence Day, celebrating their weekiversary, enjoying lunch dates (in nature and at his workplace), and a recent outing where they chowed down on a spaghetti dinner.
The future parents are also avid cooks. On July 9, Duggar shared a picture of herself preparing a delicious meal for her man. “Making one of Derick’s favorites for dinner tonight…stuffed zucchini!” she wrote. “I love www.allrecipies.com! The zucchini is fresh out of my family’s @duggarfam garden! #stuffedzucchini #jilldillard #derickdillard.” The reality star has been vocal about being healthy with homecooked meals.
The week before the stuffed zucchini, Jill excitedly told fans about a healthy homemade dressing to add flavor to dishes. “Making my favorite Voeller dressing to go with the salad for dinner this evening!” she wrote, along with the hashtags, “#duggarfam #healthycooking #lovetocook #derickdillard #jilldillard #newlyweds.”
5. July 2014: Budgeting Is Key
Scrimping and saving! Duggar has been a big advocate of budgeting those bills, even before her pregnancy news. The TLC star posted a picture on July 1, hitting the grocery store with her little brother. “Looking for deals while buying groceries with James!” she wrote at an Aldi location, alongside a pic of James holding up coupons. “[Love] this kid! #aldi #walmart #savemoneylivebetter.”
To further budget away, Duggar gave her beau a haircut on July 6, which she captioned: “#savemoneylivebetter.” Two days later, the two enjoyed a “cheap date” at IHOP for its 56th birthday. “Celebrating IHOP’s birthday with a short stack of pancakes for .56!” she wrote.
More proof of their frugality? The couple’s wedding registry, which Duggar tweeted out two days before she tied the knot. Their list of newlywed needs included items like cereal, Instant Noodles, gift cards to Qdoba Mexican Grill, Papa John’s Pizza, and Subway. They also requested tools, cleaning supplies, and even two firearms.
