Auntie of six. Joanna Gaines’ younger sister Mary Kay McCall has welcomed her sixth child — a baby girl!
The Fixer Upper star announced the arrival of her new niece with a series of adorable Instagram photos on Thursday, January 4. “My sister had her beautiful baby girl! #motherofsix #butshelooks16 😍,” the HGTV star wrote. Her mom, Nan Stevens, and older sister, Teresa Criswell, also posed for some sweet photos with the new member of the family.
The newborn’s arrival comes just days after Gaines, 39, revealed that she is expecting her fifth child. Her husband, Chip Gaines, 43, announced the news on Instagram on Tuesday, January 2, with a photo of himself pushing out his stomach while his wife showed off her baby bump. “Gaines party of 7.. (If you’re still confused.. WE ARE PREGNANT),” he wrote in the caption.
The HGTV couple already have four children – Drake, 12, Ella, 11, Duke, 9 and Emmie Kay, 7 – but recently said they wanted to have more. “We had four babies right before the show started and then we’ve had zero babies since the show started,” Chip told ABC News in October. “For me, I’m really excited to go back and try to maybe…try to make some more babies.”
He also tweeted a funny message on Tuesday about the night the pair conceived their fifth baby, saying a romantic concert was to blame. “You might recall a few months back.. the ever amazing, ever romantic @JOHNNYSWIM was in Waco,” he tweeted. “And they put on a little too romantic of a concert.. anyways, one thing led to another, & we are officially pregnant. And I could not be more EXCITED! #5 #7ThePerfectNumber.”
The baby’s announcement was met with some criticism from fans on Facebook who accused the pair of having the baby to save their marriage and others who said it was to help their show’s ratings. The couple announced in September that season 5 of Fixer Upper would be the last, saying that they wanted to focus more on their family.
