As Jodie Foster waved to her sons Charles, 19, and Kit, 16, at the Hotel Artemis premiere in L.A., she pointed out that only one kid was wearing a tie.
“He’s too cool,” Foster, 55, told Us Weekly with a laugh.
The two-time Oscar winner shares Charles and Kit with her ex-girlfriend Cydney Bernard. They split in 2008 after more than ten years together. Foster secretly tied the knot with photographer Alexandra Hedison in 2014.
Foster admitted that parenting is the “biggest” challenge of her life. But not because her boys are difficult. “Letting go has been challenging. And that’s what I’m doing now,” she told Us at the premiere. “It’s the worrying. That’s what you will find. Just because they’re asleep doesn’t mean you stop worrying about them. There’s a switch that gets turned on that never gets turned off.”
The star plays a criminal-saving nurse in her new sci-fi flick set in post-apocalypse Los Angeles. It’s Foster’s first major acting role in five years — her last big screen release was Elysium in 2013.
“I didn’t want to be the most successful director, or the highest paid, I just wanted to be somewhat of an auteur,” Foster told The Guardian in 2017. “If that meant I made two movies my entire life and I loved them, then I was fine with that.”
Foster connected with the story of Hotel Artemis as soon as she read the script. “If you can’t connect,” she told Us, “You shouldn’t be making that movie.”
Hotel Artemis opens in theaters on June 8.
