John Stamos has never been happier. But he’s really, really tired and emotional. It’s completely understandable: the 54-year-old Fuller House actor and his wife Caitlin McHugh just became first-time parents to son Billy. (Stamos announced the birth in a Sunday, April 15, Instagram post.)
The new dad, who hosted WE Day in L.A. on Thursday, April 19, told Us Weekly he had been up early singing the tear-jerker, “House at Pooh Corner” to his newborn.
“I just cried,” he confessed. “And I FaceTimed him earlier and I cried. It’s more beautiful than I could have ever imagined and I dreamt of this for a long time.”
Stamos added that the little boy has “given me life.”
Stamos isn’t worried about what sleepless night will do to his good looks, but admitted he’s finally ready to grow up. “I’ve had Peter Pan syndrome and it’s time to let that go,” he told Us. “Somebody ran up to me and was like, ‘You’re finally gonna look old now that you have a kid.’ I’ll take it!”
The actor praised McHugh, 31, who handled labor like a champ. “My wife was so beautiful and so graceful through it all, like she does life,” he gushed in a Thursday interview with Entertainment Tonight. “I mean, she just kind of breezed through. I hate tell women, but she did it in about 20 minutes.”
“It happens so fast and then they were like, ‘Take pictures! Grab her leg!’ And then it was over,” he continued. “But it was just beautiful.”
Stamos and the model, who began dating in 2016, wed in February at his Beverly Hills, California home.
Be sure to tune into WE Day’s hour long special on Friday, August 17 on ABC at 8 p.m. ET.
