It wasn't easy for Kate Hudson to keep her pregnancy a secret.
Though Us Weekly was the first to report that the actress, 31, is expecting a child with Muse rocker Matt Bellamy, Hudson took her time before sharing the news with those closest to her.
"I'm pregnant, and I'm really sick," she tells Lodon's The Times. "But I couldn't say that because you really want to keep it as quiet as you can for the first trimester."
"My friends all thought I was depressed because I wouldn't leave the house. But I didn't want anyone to know for a long time. I was just hoping that all of a sudden I could show up somewhere with a big belly," she continues. "But, of course, you're somewhere in L.A., and somebody says something, and it ends up somewhere. And here we are."
The Bride Wars actress — who denies she's engaged to the 32-year-old Brit after nearly nine months of dating — says life slightly more chaotic now that she has baby on the brain.
"I babble a lot. I forget words. And how to put sentences together," Hudson laughs. "I just give up."
Hudson first opened up about her pregnancy during a Friday appearance on England's The Graham Norton Show, telling the host that she's "just starting to pop!"
Though she doesn't yet know the baby's gender, her son Ryder, 7, "thinks it's a girl." (Ryder's dad is her ex-husband Chris Robinson of the Black Crowes.)
For now, the parents-to-be are celebrating in London with Hudson's famous mom Goldie Hawn and her longtime partner Kurt Russell.
"I'm excited! It's exciting!" Hawn, 65, gushed to UsMagazine.com recently. "You know, we're just all very happy… happy for them both. What's more to say?"
