Katie Holmes yearns for simple times before smartphones and selfie sticks.
“Remember the days when the only time anyone took out a camera was on birthdays, holidays and family vacations?” the 39-year-old mused in the April issue of Women’s Health.
Turns out mom of Suri, 11, with ex Tom Cruise, suffers from Instagram envy. “Like, that one has taken her child to Morocco,” Holmes explained. “Why haven’t I taken my child to Morocco?”
Admittedly old-fashioned, the Dawson’s Creek alum doesn’t even own a Kindle. “I feel closer to an author when I’m holding a book,” she told the publication. iCloud is also a no-go for Holmes. When the story’s writer joked about “naked photos” that might show up, Holmes cracked: “Oh yes, ‘cause I try to do that. You know, just in the mornings. My hour of naked photographing.”
Meanwhile, when it comes to parenting, Holmes clearly looks up to her own mom Kathleen — and not the Pinterest-perfect ones on social media. “My mother was always taking me to the art museum, and to the theater. That part of my life was really inspired by her,” she revealed. Kathleen also inspires her creative choices at home.
“She’s such an artist. I mean, she makes all of the curtains, she makes all the pillows. She made me a homemade sweater,” the Ocean’s 8 star told Women’s Health. “She knows how to do everything. And it’s all, like, just wrapped in love. Growing up I kind of took it for granted, but as I’ve gotten older I see the poetry in that.”
It’s safe to say that Kathleen is proud of her daughter. Though Holmes recently got buff for her upcoming film The Doorman, she didn’t just do it for the role. “Being a parent, every choice I make it with my child in mind,” Holmes said. “So part of getting in shape is to be an example.”
