Australian model Rachael Finch has a 2-year-old daughter. Yet the Miss Universe contender and her ballroom dancer husband, Michael “Mish” Miziner, are able to laze around in bed until 10 a.m. on Saturday mornings. “Every weekend [Violet] goes to Mish’s mum’s house and we get our weekend to ourselves,” the 27-year-old revealed in an interview with The Daily Telegraph on May 8. “I think that’s incredibly healthy for the relationship.”
But not everyone agrees. “WTF is with this trend of parents using grandparents as part-time parents?” quipped one person on Twitter, while another wrote on Facebook, “Why even have a child if you can’t handle them on the weekends as well?!?! I don’t understand some people pawning off their children every chance they can. Sure it’s healthy to get time away, but every weekend, all weekend is absurd.”
Backlash to the admission prompted the 5-foot-10 beauty to defend herself in a May 10 Instagram post. “A Mother should never be made to feel they are not good enough for their child when they are doing everything they can to keep them safe, happy and loved,” Finch wrote. “Only the parents of a child truly know what is best and should always have faith in their decisions.”
She continued: “I value dearly the relationship Violet has with her Grandmother and I believe this is one of the most important and influential relationships growing up. I work hard so that I can provide the best future for the amazing soul we have created. I won’t ever stop believing in her or the strength of the family unit.”
Finch and Miziner met on Australia’s Dancing With the Stars in 2010. He proposed with a 1.2-carat ring in August 2011.
