Aubrey Plaza’s motherhood journey is in full force.

“The baby just knocked on me,” Plaza, 41, said in the middle of an interview with TheWrap, published on Thursday, May 14. “I just got knocked.”

The actress was sitting alongside a real-life version of animated cat Kevin, the protagonist of her new Prime Video show. Whoever was in the cat suit couldn’t help but put their paw on their head after she felt her little one kick.

News broke last month that Plaza is gearing up to welcome her first child with boyfriend Chris Abbott. A rep confirmed the news to People on April 7, sharing that the baby will be born in the fall. A source told the publication that Plaza’s pregnancy was “a beautiful surprise,” noting the parents-to-be feel “very blessed.”

Plaza discussed her pregnancy a few days after the announcement when she appeared on the April 13 episode of Will Arnett, Jason Bateman and Sean Hayes’ “SmartLess” podcast.

“Well, there’s a baby inside of me,” the Parks and Recreation alum shared. “Today was a big day. I went to the doctor’s today, and my dog also went to the doctor’s. Both of us — my dog’s getting a scan right now. I got a scan earlier. I’m not kidding.”

Plaza added, “She had to get an ultrasound on her stomach. And then I got an ultrasound on my stomach, and there is a baby in there.”

The expectant star said she was “excited” about becoming a mom.

“I’ve always wanted to see what that’s all about, you know?” Plaza added. “It just seems so interesting, that whole thing.”

Plaza found love with Abbott, 40 — whom she has worked with in the past — following the death of her husband Jeff Baena. Plaza and Baena were separated when he died by suicide in January 2025. He was 47.

“This is an unimaginable tragedy,” Plaza’s rep told Us Weekly in a statement following Baena’s death. “We are deeply grateful to everyone who has offered support. Please respect our privacy during this time.”

When Plaza appeared on Amy Poehler’s “Good Hang” podcast in August 2025, she discussed Baena’s death for the first time.

“Overall, I’m here, and I’m functioning, and I feel grateful to be moving through the world,” she said. “I think, like, I’m OK, but it’s a daily struggle, obviously.”

Plaza compared her grief to “a giant ocean of awfulness.”

She added, “I can see it, and sometimes I just wanna dive into it and be in it. And then, sometimes, I just look at it, and sometimes I just try to get away from it.”
